Well.. It's a soft no. I mean. it's an improvement but I think the wrong way to go. See my forthcomimg comment
It's an improvement but I think the wrong way to go. But I still think it's a good improvement
Do et
looks good but am curious about rob's forthcoming comment
A small first step that makes sense but will need some rework in the future.
@robertguthrie what's your thoughts about the right way to go?
Sorry for the delay. I just think that voting should not be a page load. When you click your position a box should side down to collect a statement and you confirm the vote with a submit button. All in the same page. Then we wouldn't need to be duplicating the proposal in the first place.
Woah @robertguthrie I think you just got a consensus like-storm.
I'm going to submit my code anyway because it is an easy improvement, and invite anyone that wants to implement your better suggestion to make an IE-friendly modal.
Hey, If I could use my likes to help others, I would. I swear.
@richarddbartlett, I like the hide&show form option better than modals. Just because we haven't had much success with these in the past.
Bit of tangent, inspired by Robert's 'like' storm (still think 'agree' is better than 'like' btw ;), how difficult would it be to code a feature that allows a comment like Robert's to be promoted to a proposal? What would happen if a comment that reached x 'likes' automatically became a proposal people could indicate a position on?
What about replacing 'Like' with a thumbs-up, that expands to a drop-down if you optionally want to go into more detail like: 'I agree', 'useful', 'funny', 'this should be a proposal', etc
I'm not sure there's a huge problem with manually copying a comment into a new proposal though...
@richarddbartlett Thumbs-up would be an improvement ;) If you do a drop-down, what about allowing people to take the same range of positions on comments that they can take on proposals?
Think about how many clicks and mouse movements are involved in 'create proposal > copy > paste' vs 'promote to proposal'. I'm more exciting about the second part of that suggestion though, it could one way for the app to guide the group towards a decision, based on their own expressions of agreement.
BTW I feel the same 'too many clicks' frustration when I can't edit my comments, and have to delete and repost.

I agree Rob that we want to go in a better direction than this, but I think it is a small improvement for a tiny effort
