FIU Monthly Sea Level Rise/Environment/Climate & Technology
FIU is willing to host a monthly CFM meeting on sea level rise/environment/climate (SEC) and technology. We would invite groups involved in SEC to attend, including scientists and activists. People who are working on other projects would be welcome as well.

Yea or No - Monthly Sea Level Rise-Themed Meetings Closed Fri 16 Dec 2016 6:03PM
FIU is willing to host a monthly CFM meeting on sea level rise/environment/climate (SEC) and technology. We would invite groups involved in SEC to attend, including scientists and activists. People who are working on other projects would be welcome as well. The SEC group can use a secondary room for its work, if necessary, after introductions. This meeting will be the last meeting date of the month (so last Monday, if we are going to continue to meet on Mondays) at CIC. We can commit to this through Fall 2017.

I'm okay with this. We definitely have the conference room space. I do think we may need some guidance as developers on how we can help as the subject itself feels a little daunting and helpless. (Maybe open source that app? ;) )

Where would the meeting take place, CiC?

Adding to what Cristina said, @susanjacobson: if this is at FIU, would this be at FIU Biscayne Bay or FIU Westchester?
The only thing I worry about is that there may be a drop in attendance if it's far away or if it's based on a single topic.

It would be at CIC.

I put up a regular poll that includes this information. Perhaps I should delete this message?

Ernie - I have a bunch of ideas on how we can extend the functionality of the app (or create separate projects based on it). I gave a presentation at a County meeting yesterday, and we talked about helping the municipalities use a form to ask citizens to verify the success (or failure) of their flood mitigation efforts. For example, some Miami Beach streets are now dry during King Tides because of the pumps. On the last King Tide Day we collected evidence to this effect. We also need to visualize the data we are collecting, work on making the data meaningful for citizens and scientists. Work on the interface. And that's just in the scope of the things I am working on - there are other groups working on sea level rise and the environment.

Very cool, Susan. Would you like to propose something in particular through loomio? (See this link for more context: https://blog.loomio.org/2015/09/18/9-ways-to-use-a-loomio-proposal-to-turn-a-conversation-into-action/ )
