Create Category 'inactive Members'
Automatically change to the category, 'inactive Members', members of the group or subgroup, where they exceed the number of days or months, without making contributions to the group or subgroup.
Purpose, avoid the lack of consensus or the low percentage of approval.
I would love this too. I was already planning to use a formally administered 'work-around' for this problem in groups I coordinate.
I don't think it would entirely solve the problem of people who don't genuinely participate: for instance, someone who wanted to avoid "inactive status" could deliberately make trivial comments in order to avoid the automated feature. However, it would help greatly in dealing with people who literally disappear. That's a huge issue online.
@gregorycassel Totally agree with you, at least solved the problem of missing persons.
For persons who want to avoid the 'inactive state', they will get tired of writing worthless comments or forgotten to write comment worthless
Another option that the coordinator, the move to the category, 'inactive Members'
I think it makes more sense for Loomio to focus on revealing this information to groups, and not have a strong opinion about what exactly the information means. Some groups will be OK with inactive members. Some will want only active members involved.
@jessykate is thinking about user-facing engagement metrics we could offer groups, to help them shape the community they want to have by providing them data.
In several groups I am a part of, we run a process at regular intervals where we raise a Loomio and say "opt in to stay a member" or something similar. If someone does not respond, it means they are opting out. This is important for groups that aim to get full consensus, or need to only consider active participants as decision-making stakeholders.
But for other groups, it's not important. For example, here in the Loomio Community, it's OK with me if someone goes inactive for a long time, and then decides to get involved again later. Or if they only occasionally lurk. When we have a decision here, only those who chose to participate are considered, and it's up to them.
@alanna I mean a choice in group settings or starting a new proposal.
Who happens to 'inactive Members' may return to 'Members' just adding a comment or position on the proposal.
Strictly not answer the query 'opt in to stay a member', does not mean you want to leave the group
Although 'only chose to participate those who are considered', is always visible the participation percentage, which does not benefit the consensus.
I think we will start to develop more user-facing metrics like this (such as seeing how active members are). @jessykate is looking into it.
I love this idea. I'd love to hear concerns but something like this could be hugely helpful.
