migrating OSGeo Trac instance to Gitea
OSGeo provides both Gitea and Trac as version control/wiki/issue tracker services. While the Trac instance has been operating for many years, Gitea provides a modern, Git-based version control, issue tracker and wiki for the OSGeo community.
To ensure efficient use of resources (maintainers, hardware) and provide a single OSGeo service for version control/wiki/issue tracker, it would be valuable to streamline this capability and reduce services providing similar functionality.

To ensure efficient use of resources (maintainers, hardware) and provide a single OSGeo service for version control/wiki/issue tracker, it would be valuable to streamline this capability and reduce services providing similar functionality.
The proposal includes the following work/steps with SAC and relevant projects:
assessment of projects using OSGeo Trac
migration support to Gitea for required projects
decommissioning of OSGeo Trac after 90 days (2026-12-17)

I think it is prudent and proactive to modernise the experience we offer code maintainers.

Yes please! Trac is antequated and providing a nice modern and user friendly makes a lot of sense for an organisation centered around its code base.
