Theme Camp Placement 2019

Welcome Theme Camp Leads. This is a forum to discuss the placement of theme camps this year. I've attached a Google Map showing our first draft. Feel free to come in with any issues you might have or suggestions for improvement

Lexy Sun 7 Apr 2019 10:51PM
Yes I believe so - @pauliophario to confirm :)

Paul Phare Mon 8 Apr 2019 7:48AM
Yes, although once the event starts there will be no movement of vehicles so only bring it down if you don't intend to move again until Strike
Lizzie Shand Sat 6 Apr 2019 8:04PM
Yeh Essex-on-Sea is cool with this馃
Anywhere is better than tiltering on the edge of a huge slope as "The Roost" was last year馃槂

Dead Insides are concerned we're a little too close to family camping. We have 2 late parties, a sound system and most of our workshops are very sweary & horror themed. We were hoping to be closer to the other bars, as we are more of a bar camp than a workshop venue.
Iona Steen Sun 7 Apr 2019 11:16AM
Thanks ok not sure family camp will happen this year
So may not be an issue after all we will keep you posted
If there is family camp it may be children area rather than camp and we move it to centre camp

Lexy Sun 7 Apr 2019 8:20PM
Even if Family Camp does not happen, this end is also near the quiet camps, and other 'quieter' areas in theory. So do agree in principle that the noisier yellow camps might be better suited to be nearer the red camps! cc @pauliophario

I looks like some CCC campers are going to camp in the free camping field this year so we'll need a bit less space than anticipated this year, if that helps.

Paul Phare Sun 7 Apr 2019 11:43AM
Sorry, just to confirm. Is this Costume Camp?

Paul Phare Sun 7 Apr 2019 9:38PM
We've had a discussion today with Panravia who would like to go in the location we've put CCC. They have a large number of camping members and need more space. Since you don't need so much space and also require electricity (they don't). Would you mind if they swap places with you?

Paul Phare Mon 8 Apr 2019 10:16AM
@yon1 (from Panravia) linking you into this disucssion with CCC
Yon Tue 9 Apr 2019 11:43AM
Yes yes, this is good with us. We're off grid, so swapping with CCC would be ideal.
Frederic Festy Thu 11 Apr 2019 10:57PM
Hi Guys, we're happy to swap with Panravia.
Frederic Festy Sun 7 Apr 2019 11:44AM
Ccc = camp costume camp 馃槏
Giggletits Sun 7 Apr 2019 12:08PM
Seeing as Whisper is a performer camp, wouldn't it be better if they were further from the sound/bar camps? Obviously with our not-so-hidden agenda of swapping with them 馃榿

Paul Phare Sun 7 Apr 2019 12:21PM
The plan is for sound camps to direct their sound into the tree, so away from the Whisper. Your neighbouring camps are also lower level sound camps/bars
Giggletits Sun 7 Apr 2019 3:34PM
So will we be able to point at the trees from this layout?

Paul Phare Sun 7 Apr 2019 9:33PM
I guess that depends how you orientate your camp
Giggletits Mon 8 Apr 2019 8:42AM
Ok, so you may have gathered from my not so subtle queries that the majority of the Dead Insides are not thrilled with our placement.
Being close to camping isn't ideal as we do plan on having two late parties.
Being on a slope isn't ideal for how our venue structure is made.
How can we come to an accord?

Paul Phare Mon 8 Apr 2019 9:49AM
I would suggest going on a site visit. The slope there isn鈥檛 that bad at all and given your structure isn鈥檛 a dome, it will fair better there than most. People camping in that area do so in the understanding that it isn鈥檛 quiet camping, you can also direct your sound away from them. The only other thing we could do is swap you with the Whisper @xavier dubruille ( xdubruille@gmail.com ) how would you feel about that?

Paul Phare Tue 9 Apr 2019 4:44PM
So Xavier has agreed to swap with you guys. I'll update the map
Giggletits Tue 9 Apr 2019 4:47PM
Awesome, thanks! And thanks Xavier/Whisper
xavier dubruille Tue 9 Apr 2019 5:00PM
hey i m not so easy you forget to precise that in exchange they will have to perform on stage (anything, we got a lot of occasion for that)

Paul Phare Tue 9 Apr 2019 5:05PM
It also means I can swap House of Mojo around with the Merkins so you guys can be next to each other as requested :)
Giggletits Wed 10 Apr 2019 8:20AM
Yay!!! Thank you  Dead Insides are very happy...then they realised how dead inside they were are stopped that nonsense immediately :sunglasses:
Yon Mon 8 Apr 2019 10:03AM
Update from Panravia. As we mentioned on Sunday, we'd like to be on the other side of quiet ville, further from the bars. If that's possible. Perhaps in the area where costume camp is...
Graeme McGregor Mon 8 Apr 2019 10:54AM
(Not in a camp, just amused that Camp Crumpet this year is right on top of where my tent was last year... :) I'll have to scout around for a different, secluded camping spot. Unless Crumpet are okay with me setting up in the middle of their dancefloor... Hmm...)

Lexy Mon 8 Apr 2019 2:39PM
The layout has basically been flipped this year, so all the loud camps (Crumpet, ODITR & Psychejellyfish) are all up the other end (near where Panravia / hammocks in the trees were) and the quiet camps are around The Point (formerly known as Centre Camp).
Graeme McGregor Mon 8 Apr 2019 3:02PM
Yep, I saw that on the map. It's a really good idea. I was just looking forward to going back to my beautiful secluded camping spot. I'm just a selfish diva, really ;)
Ben Mon 8 Apr 2019 2:33PM
(ODITR) Paul - I saw your intent is to have soundcamps 'firing' into the trees - can you somehow mark the intended direction on the map? Our proposed camp layout means we can only aim the soundsystem along the long axis of the camp which could easily be 20m, which may limit our ability to place the camp

Paul Phare Mon 8 Apr 2019 8:02PM
Yes I see the problem. There is no getting around the fact that you will be on a bit of a slope there but there's no getting away from it if you need good access. I don't really know enough about sound, so I'm only going by the guidance given by the Council last year. There will be plenty of scope for micro-siting anyway when you get there and you've got a pretty big area. I've rotated your marquee around on the map. Happy to receive any other suggestions
Yon Tue 9 Apr 2019 11:44AM
Where has the point gone?

Paul Phare Tue 9 Apr 2019 11:56AM
what do you mean? It's the big white box on the map

Lexy Tue 9 Apr 2019 1:52PM
Where is The Point ? What is the point? Who knows! ;)
Amandasm Fri 12 Apr 2019 12:57PM
This sort of Pointless talk is never gonna end, is it? :)
Yon Tue 9 Apr 2019 3:17PM
Oh, I see. I thought that was security since most other things are shown by a circular symbol.

Paul Phare Tue 9 Apr 2019 3:33PM
What you mean keep the same convention for the Point as I鈥檝e used for the rest of the map. How confusing!

Paul Phare Wed 10 Apr 2019 11:00AM
@tarekabdulrahman in this little shuffle around we've been having (see discussion above) your camp has been brought to the opposite side of the path. Hope that's okay with you folks?
Tarek AbdulRahman Wed 24 Apr 2019 4:44PM
Apologies for the Delay Paul, we are comfortable with the placement for the HAUS OF K location if these matters can be confirmed:
1) if the location we are in is flat or is that a decline on the edge of the location? please confirm
2) HAUS of K (the Lettuce previously) is coming back with Karaoke and we are in the final stages to decide on whether we will be bringing a proper Techno night on friday like last year, will that be okay in terms of the loudness of the music and our placement which seems to be further from the sound camps now.

Paul Phare Thu 25 Apr 2019 6:57AM
Hi Tarek, the land slopes a bit at your location but it will be fine for your needs. You鈥檒l be okay making noise on Friday night until the curfew, sound earlier in the week will have to be lower, but someone will go through that with you when you get to site and we will be monitoring levels throughout to make sure we鈥檙e within our licence conditions.

Paul Phare Fri 12 Apr 2019 2:39PM
Okay, so if there are no more requests or concerns, we have our 20 camps placed
xavier dubruille Fri 12 Apr 2019 10:44PM
actually i was thinking about aquatic show sure i can use the lake but can you put on the map an swimming pool next to my camp that i will shovel myself and the map will be perfect.
if it s not possible maybe next year :p
anyway let me be the first to tell you my greatest thanks for your hard work for these map, without speaking of all the other side task implied by your role. you are our lighttower (ok pun included phare is a light tower in french)

Paul Phare Sat 13 Apr 2019 9:05AM
Aw, thanks Xavier  I'll assume you're joking about the swimming pool
Charlotte Davis Sat 13 Apr 2019 11:04AM
Aww, I was looking forwarded to seeing Xavier鈥檚 synchronised swimming... 馃槣
Gemma Smith Thu 25 Apr 2019 8:27AM
I realise it's not a theme camp but can I ask how I go about reserving an area for fnugging? Or can I just rock up and set up where I like :p

Paul Phare Thu 25 Apr 2019 12:26PM
Hi Gemma, we can take this off Loomio as it doesn't affect anyone else. Feel free to contact me directly on paul@burningnest.co.uk
