Watched Discussions

Feature

I think there might be users who want to keep track of some of the discussions (me at least :) )

Proposal

  • Added a boolean field (watched) and a scope in the discussions model
  • Display the 'watched discussions' in a separated section on the home page (per 1st mock up)
  • Add a link on the side bar which will take the user to a page that only display discussions being watched
  • Add a 'watch/un-watch' toggle on the discussion title

Cool. I often find myself wanting the same thing.

Hey @minhha great mockup! I'm currently having a go at redesigning the front page. I'll keep this in mind whilst redesigning. I think we definitely need a feature like this. Great to see how you would imagine it working.

Excellent! thanks @minhha! I love the feature and the implementation.

You should jam with Jon if you get a chance.

Yes, this makes sense. Although, I guess it only applies to discussion you care about/ want to watch, but have so far not contributed to? i.e. any discussion you have voted/ commented on you should (do?) get notifications about (and would be automatically added to your watch list?)

I share your willingness of keeping track of things @minhha. My first thought was about adding discussions to favorites with a star (how original!). I am wondering whether it might be an idea to use the left hand side and add some navigation there that looks like buttons/tabs as in help page and just call it 'my favorites' or 'my watchlist'.

If 'watched discussions' are added at the top, maybe only constant number of latest e.g. 3 or 5 could be showed.
