Should we change from weekly hack nights to monthly hack nights?

EH Ernie Hsiung Public Seen by 387

There has been some talk about changing the format from a weekly hack night schedule to a monthly hack night schedule for various reasons (including burnout of current staff)

Alternatively, Bryce from the Miami Ruby Brigade is continuing the weekly Ruby hack nights and has offered to make the nights a little more general. Of course, this would be a little different from our current weekly Code for Miami hack night format. What are your thoughts?

I support an every other week format or rotating captains.

It's hard enough to keep any projects on track as it is; monthly would a slow death sentence. We should still have weekly meetings but I feel we should make them more focused.

I can't commit to a weekly in-person meeting.

What I'd recommend if the decision is to continue weekly is to find 4-5 people that can commit to hosting once per month every month, rather than having to create a schedule every so often.

For instance, 1st Monday of the month is always Cristina hosting, second is always Danielle, third Bryce, etc. And if that person has some kind of last minute thing it is their responsibility to get someone to host.

And as a side note, I am willing to host once per month.

Weekly is difficult for me; however, I can try to step up my involvement to twice a month.

I agree with @cristinasolana completely. I think I mentioned it to someone (maybe Chris) during last meetup. If we can spread the responsibility a little bit so that different people host and have other responsibilities it will be a lot easier for leadership.

I also agree with "at a minimum of once every two weeks." More than that and it might feel like nothing is going on at all.

I know I have not been involved enough (I think I have attended around 5-6 meetings in total, spread on a couple of months) but I would be willing to host once per month as well.

FIU is willing to host a monthly meeting on sea level rise/climate change/environmental issues and technology.

Since we're not doing monthly hack nights, I propose to have open hack nights stay at Monday Nights Closed Fri 23 Dec 2016 12:03AM

It's like we never stopped Code for Miami in the first place!

I don't drive the bus anymore, I'm just riding in it.

Yes - I think it will be better to maintain consistency and build in the community.
