Documentation of admin functions?
I've set up loomio on dokku, as documented in the wiki.
I've got an accessible website. I can create a user and log in. What I can't do is find any admin functions, or documentation of how to access the admin interface. For all I know there could be an admin user sitting there already with a default password open to whoever comes along.
Any assistance much appreciated.
If I go to /admin when not logged in, I'm redirected to /user/signin .
If I go to /admin when logged in I'm redirected to /dashboard. I can see some stuff there for adding groups, but surely there's more that I need to be able to do, like set policy on new account signups.
Also, I don't think I've done anything with this account that is different to what could be done by joe public hitting the site at this stage and creating an account. How does an account get to have site administrator privileges?
Not having found a better solution, I set is_admin=true on the row that represents my user in the users table of the database. I can now access /admin.
I've seen reference to 'admin' and 'super admin' as being different things, but I'm not entirely clear which one I've now got .
That is the correct solution @mc0e - would you add that to wiki?
There is some confusion around language due to historical changes. We now use "group coordinator", to refer to a typical user with special privileges in one group, and "admin" to refer to a superuser with special privileges to the whole app. Sometimes people will refer to this admin as a "superadmin" to try to clarify, which can then get more confusing :)
However this hasn't been entirely cleaned up in the codebase, so for instance the membership.admin field is actually referring to the group coordinator, whereas user.is_admin refers to the superadmin, as you've discovered.
I don't agree that modifying the database by hand can ever be "the correct solution".
Agreed. I mean it is the expedient solution. Patch away!
I happened to modify the database is_admin = t
You need to make your user an admin, open the rails console, find your user, and set admin to true.
u = User.find_by email: 'me@address.com'
u.admin = true
u.save
I needed to add this to my gemfile before i could open the rails console: gem 'rb-readline'
and in the comment by @robertguthrie it should have been u.is_admin instead of u.admin
You can access the management functions by /admin
