easy addresses for the Features + Community groups

at the moment, the address for this group is https://www.loomio.org/groups/212 ...
it would be better if people could type in
www.loomio.org/features
and likewise
www.loomio.org/community
do people this is is a good idea? If so, what should the page names be ?

meh, not so sure about this myself. don't ask me why (i don't know, it's mostly an emotional reaction).

@jonlemmon is it possible you're concerned these groups might change a lot over time and it will be limiting to have special URLs? That was my thought. Right now I think agility in terms of changing all these around as needed is more important than ease of access. In the future I expect they will settle more and then we can lock them in in nice URLs.

I agree with using friendly urls in general but not specifically with this description of them.
We need to namespace names for future proofing, for example:
www.loomio.org/group/loomio-features
and
www.loomio.org/group/loomio-features/discussion/friendly-urls
If someone changes the discussion title or group name the stub (ie: the url representation of the name) should either be unchanged or be versioned. If versioned the old name becomes a redirect to the new.

yeah cool, was just throwing an initial stab out, think what you're proposing @robertguthrie sounds great.
my main feeling was some of these links should be human readable so when they're shared the person can have a reasonable idea of where they are going
and
they can guess the url and have it auto-completed by typing in the address bar

Yeah, I think you're talking about slugs.
I always imagined it would be more like:
www.loomio.org/group/loomio-features/212
Loomio itself would just look for the group id at the end, so you could change the group name as much as you want and the link would still work.
This is how Trello works and I think it's a really good method.

PS - Have a look at what happens to the url in Trello when you click on a card.

Jon that looks much better. I like that design. Sorry.. I was recalling a slugging system described in a railscast once.
