Variety and Choice of Emoticons

This discussion is about the emoticon offering on the forums.

I think we have both a too limited and too overloaded choice of emoticons. I mean, many of them rarely fit in a discussion (group hug, painter, neutral...) while some emotions are missing (what about :-/, awesome face, tear of happiness, heart sign, embarrassed, devilish, high five, tongue-tied, sick, cheering...)

Also, I never liked that winking emoticon's smile. The tip makes it look sarcastical IMO...

Also, wouldn't a heart look more fitting and a bit less specific (romance) than the current one?

I've been thinking the same thing for a while now, but didn't consider it too important to suggest. I have to agree, the ones that are rarely used should be replaced with the missing ones. Where have they gone missing, anyway? I remember them being there on the old forums.

@seb1 I think we just copied the ones we found essential and the others (e.g. Falcon Punch) were just considered spam-friendly.

I agree some of these could make a comeback:

Jeepey, about those emoticons you said might be making a comeback, I totally see you using the 'OFF TOPIC' one a lot.

Also on this wink, I really like the first one. It isn't nearly as sarcastic-looking as the one we have now.

Since the case of the winking emoticon is pretty small compared to the other ones, I don't think a vote would be necessary. We already have unanimity : Byte2222, Vincentmrl, SuperDeku and me.

And I hope I don't sound so mean, @angelmontes :P

SuperDeku suggested me to bring these Nintendo-related emoticons to the forums, don't hesitate to share your opinion on it:

What I find hard to determine is why we'd use them. They're quite pixelated and the emotions are not as well portrayed as with the regular emoticons.

maybe with a bit of smoothing they'll look good
