Learning to be a democratic teacher

Are there any courses, anywhere in the world that educate teachers on how to be democratic educators? Or is it something we just need to learn from experience?

Are there any videos showing classrooms or meetings in a democratic school ?
If not, I think the best way to learn would be to get on a skype, or to try and visit and spend a day or a week being involved

That's my plan @mixirving , spend some time in some different schools later in the year!

Organising a share/ swap among some schools would be awesome... the closest thing i've heard of was done by discovery and/ or unlimted just before my time there in 2001 where a team of teachers went 'on tour' checking out innovative schools! I'd like a tour of touring innovative learning spaces in Aus and NZ!! KInma would be thrilled to have you visit but I take care in clarifying that it does not call itself a 'democratic' school. The children have much more choice in their day than in a mainstream school, there are class and school meetings, which i think have improved greatly in the last 2 years and the bush environment lends itself to tremendous self and small group learning possibilities... check website out http://www.kinma.nsw.edu.au/
