Quarterly Project 2021Q2
We are half a month away from Q2, is it agreed that it will be "Buildings (New residential areas + areas that are currently lacking)" as that was joint-winner on the previous vote?
I wonder if we could contact the each of the house building companies and ask them for data or a list of housing developments that have started groundbreaking or had new houses sold in the last 5 years? We could then tick off if these to check they at least have landuse=construction.
Ideally we'd have a spreadsheet(or wiki table) format prepared that includes space for lat/lon. Make it clear we're asking the other companies and that residents/buyers benefit from good map data, nobody wants to be off the map!
There's lists here or here of the biggest companies.

Yep, identifying areas would be really good - I sometimes do that when I'm travelling past and then map them as landuse=construction or an OSM note. We can use this to check on them as time passes, especially helpful if we have a name so we can find out the status (sometimes) before leaving the house to map it.
One near me I haven't actually mapped as construction yet, but I plan to visit it probably as an example for the project.

After reading that there are approx. 25k buildings as nodes in the UK on the 2021Q2 Wiki page, I started to have a look at making the challenge, but the number of tasks was just too many! I've created one for Scotland (link) but that's still 5000 tasks...
Be interested to know if you think this is useful, or if it'll be used, and if it's worth making a whole UK version?

It works as well as any other challenge. Could you include a note about using the OSMUK Cadastral Parcels to align aerial imagery as well please?

In the last directors meeting we decided to confirm Buildings for the Q2 project. I've stared some MapRoulette and Tasking Manager stuff, you can see them on the wiki page.
I would love to have a good relationship with Barratt Homes (and similar, or even estate agents) to have data sent in both directions, but right now I don't have the energy to try and start that off. If you want to, please feel free to do so. Maybe it's obvious but there is also a fare amount of info on there website too, we obviously can't copy lots of it for inclusion in OSM, but I don't see a problem just using the site to identify areas that need tracing.
