Changing passwords

Danyl Strype PublicSeen by 57

[experimental use story #2] As a user, I would like to be able to change my password, so I can use a different password to login in future.

Jon Lemmon

@strypey this feature exists, but only if you're logged out. =/

I agree that this obviously needs to be a feature for logged-in users as well.

Danyl Strype

@jonlemmon How do I change my password when I'm logged out?

Jon Lemmon

@strypey Go the sign-in page and click "Forgot password?"

Danyl Strype

@jonlemmon But I haven't forgotten my password! :P OK, I see what you mean. I could use that as a workaround, but it would be more user-friendly to have a 'change password' option under User Settings.

Jon Lemmon

@strypey indeed.

If this is a lazy consensus, am I being bureaucratic by putting up a formal proposal? Just curious what people think about process.

Yea for sure. Anyone wanna contribute a pull request for this? Create ChangePasswordForm object ala the rails cast on form objects

Richard D. Bartlett

@strypey it's interesting to raise this as a process issue. e.g. is the proposal 'it would be nice if this existed', or 'I want to build this', or 'I want the devs to know this is an important feature.'

Danyl Strype

@richarddbartlett Where this feature fits on the roadmap, or who will code it, are not issues I can usefully comment on as an engaged user giving active feedback. My purpose in starting this discussion was to establish that there is a need, and I made the proposal to offer a specific way to fulfill it, and see if anyone disagreed or had a better idea. Does that make sense?

Josef Davies-Coates

Yes, users should obviously be able to change their password (without having to say they've forgotten it).
