Moving Off-topic Comments

DS Danyl Strype Public Seen by 246

Should Hospitality workers in this Loomio forum merely point out that a comment is off-topic, and ask the user to delete and repost in either an existing or new thread, or should we actually do so ourselves? If we are going to move people's comments for them, should we give a certain number of days grace for them to do it first?

I would prefer a few days grace, as that is the usual time it takes for the usual cycle of events to pass when my fiancée is in hospital.

In general I would think that it is the authors responsibility to move or remove their displaced stuff when made aware of it being off-topic. This way it becomes a learning experience.
So I am all for a grace period before someone else tidies it up, as long as the comment is not offensive, which requires immediate removal.

How long should such a grace period be?
If the comment is likely to provoke responses, it should be moved quicker. If there is no obvious place to move it and therefore it needs to be removed rather than moved, we should give the author a longer time to create a new discussion rather than removing it quickly.

I would think something between 24 hours and 78 hours could be appropriate.
