Hi I've started a Queer Housing Co-op in Dublin - we're still at the proposal/planning stage - open to new members, suggestions etc.

Hi all,

I am convenor for the Community Land Trust Initiative in Dublin running for the last 18 months. We are a mixed bunch of people; activists, architects, housing executives, planners, even builders. Community Land Trusts are being re-invented as a base for other kinds of alternative housing from social and private rental through co-housing to privately owned homes. The difference with the CLT is that ALL kinds of housing becomes affordable because the upfront land cost is taken out and put into common ownership. We think that public land should never be sold but leased long term with an affordable and predictable ground rent - like the City authority does in Amsterdam. Our core assumption is that local authorities and other public bodies will be happier to give access to land for co-housing if the homes are protected from on-sale to investors/wealthy occupiers/developers by a CLT.

Thats the theory anyway... looking forward to the chat.

Hi,
Me and 4 others are buying a house and a bit of land in the west of Ireland this year (probably around sligo). We saved over the last few years through working and paying very little on rent (some people lived in camelot, parents house, or squatting) We have all known each other for many years, so its going to be a very intentional project and not very open to other people.

But I would like to link up with other groups when we are set up. I also plan to start working online and making savings towards co-op projects in the future (such as large land projects, tiny house villages, or an autonomous social center in the city) So I'm really interested in reading about everyones projects

HI. I am a experienced cooperative specialist based in Derry. I set up and lived in a fully mutual housing coop in Manchester in 1993 and I'm still in touch with the Radical Routes network. I have worked with all kinds of housing and land cooperatives, collectives, worker coops, consumer coops, credit unions etc. I'm good at helping to find multiple sources of finance, communication and conflict, coop business planning, registration. I'm following this coop housing group with interest and happy to help pro bono. Www.cbc.coop

Hi, my background is in democratic education and my expertise are in democratic practices and in co-founding democratic schools. Democratic schools, particularly Sudbury schools, have a lot in common with democratically run intentional communities in terms of their practices and values which underly them. In addition, I think some of the fundamental big picture steps and insights involved in founding democratic schools are applicable to founding any form of cooperative / co-housing project and I feel this is where I could also bring value.

I've gained my expertise by working 2 years at Summerhill and then moving to Paris to set up Europe's first bilingual Sudbury School and soon after moved back to Ireland to join a group of parents, with whom I've co-founded Ireland's first democratic school - www.wicklowsudburyschool.com

My vision is to one day co-found Ireland's first democratic eco-village based on the Sudbury education model, but all in good time :)
