Loomio

Broke as Heck, missed this month's dues

Should I participate in the loomio? I'm willing to put in work to compensate.

Leo Sammallahti

I can pay you 5 dollar donation to Social Coop on your behalf for 5 months of membership, let me know if you are in a better financial position at some time to pay me back by paying for 5 months of my membership.

No hurry though.

spudboy

Thanks! I'm so broke I have to bum rides from bus drivers to get home from work lol.

spudboy

Also totally willing to put in that work! I know all kinds of internet shit

Leo Sammallahti

Apparently the minimum donation is 10 dollars, which is what I donated. That includes 5 month membership fees for you, and 5 dollar donation to Social Coop.

Let me know when you can pay the 5 dollars back.

Robert Benjamin

Thanks Leo for stepping up on this. Working on a proposal that includes the creation of an access fund in the budget so that money isn't the limiting factor for those that otherwise are down contribute to the community but lack the funds.

dsbrooks

I like the idea of being able to help in other ways, other than payment alone.

Jeff Hardin

I happily make a small monthly donation through the Open Collective because I believe in the larger goal of shared ownership of the platform and the impact it could have on the wider world. That said, I have few skills that can tangibly move that vision forward. So, I appreciate from the bottom of my heart all the folks who are contributing my part through their time and work on "the meat and potatoes stuff".

There are a million places where people can go and be judged based on their ability to make a financial contribution. My impression is this community is not one of those places. Your responses here further confirm this, and I'm happy that Robert & others are working on a proposal to formalize these values.

Robert Benjamin

Thanks Jeff. @dsbrooks The proposal probably won't have a system to directly offset fees for services as things are already powered primarily by volunteer contributions and it would be pert near impossible keep track/credit that work except at the admin ops team level which wouldn't work for most member/users.

What I was thinking was along the line of what Jeff said that many members value having the platform/organization accessible as possible.

The best way to express that would be to make 1 low base subscription fee that transparently accounts for the cost per user to maintain the platform/organization and then allocate an additional access fund through members voluntary contributions that is used to offset as many users that need to access it any given time.

Michele Kipiel

Sorry to hear that :( I hope you will be in better shape soon!

it's that public school life lol, i'm praying for a full time position to open up

Antoine-Frédéric Raquin

Hello,

It's the same on my side. I'll make a donation as soon as I can, but my bank won't allow me paying anything. (I'm currently frauding in a train.)

I can work as well but I'm an autodidact sysadmin, which means that making sure I don't destroy anything would become unpaid work.

Anyway, if there's anything to do, HMU and I'll do it (likely starting on the next Saturday).

For example, I may dig into snaps and start documenting a cooperative-managed Mastodon snap image.
