Banned List
So I was thinking there are quite a few items in the co-op that we might all agree shouldn't be there! So I'm suggesting that we make a banned list of items that can't be ordered into the co-op. So first of all I was thinking any items with unsustainable palm oil? Even if it says organic I don't think it is from sustainable sources...

Make a banned list for the co-op Closed Sun 23 Nov 2014 8:04PM
Ok so after looking at the comments instead of it being a definite banned list, call it a 'products we avoid' list, make sure that it is a consensus and include the reasons why we have chosen to try and avoid it from now on in the black folder, so it can be reviewed in the future - hope works for everyone! :)

Things should only be put on the ban list after concensus at foodhub meetings, when alternative sustainable sourcing has been considered. The research should be kept with the recommended products list and research to pass on year to year.

Yup I agree with this and that it should be consensus decision. Like Richards name idea too instead of banned products!

I like the idea of a list that says "things that we try to avoid" with a little explanation on why and when it has been decided.

Something like: 'Products we support' and 'Products we avoid' - based on our aims of providing ethically sourced, nutritious, sustainable products

I think having a guide is a good idea, but we might need to be a little careful about how definitive we make the list. The nature of Green Action, being a student society, is that the membership is always shifting which means that as a cooperative, the way we run shifts too. A few years ago the consensus was very much against the stocking of honey, but now our group has agreed that we think its a good thing. Can we have a list of things we havnt stocked, and the reasons for not stocking them, but be sure to make clear that if at any point, in years down the line, people want to bring the idea back to the table, then they can?

How about rather than calling it a banned list, have it be foods that mesh with our ethical standing.
