Loomio

A proposal to redesign Loomio

Marco Giustini PublicSeen by 78

I discovered a freesoftware web service called "Your Priorities" developped by the islandese Citizen Foundation, which has a really user friendly interface based on groups as Loomio but with a discussion with the option of pro/cons proposals. Please have a watch to their site and to their code and let me know if is possible to do something similar.

That's a really cool site, and I like the pro/con format for some purposes. But it's not always useful to structure a conversation like that, sometimes it's better to let the pro and con and neutral-but-relevant points be intermingled a bit more. I think it would be quite nice to have the option of a pro/con listing tool in Loomio, but I would likely disagree with the idea that Loomio should be redesigned (as a whole) to centralize this feature. Including it as an option is enough.

I wrong to create the proposal. The pro/con is an OPTION also there

If you want to clarify, you can edit the text into the intro box, by clicking on the little downward-facing arrow above it, then clicking edit.

Ah, I'm aware of YourPriorities; in fact I met and hung out with Gunnar Grímmson at a conference a couple years back. There's a couple other tools like this out there as well; Kialo comes to mind.

We won't make this the central feature of Loomio anytime soon, but I could see us supporting a more explicit pro/con kinda view as a decision type, or as a particular way to view the results of a proposal or check.

There is another platform called Gruff, associated with the Earth Democracy folks (source code on GH).

FYI I was in touch with the Kialo folks recently, trying to convince them to release their code under AGPL ;) They depend on a lot of existing free code, but haven't liberated their own (yet).

Is there no way to change the view of groups without a big code change?
