CoTech Stall at Co-op Congress 2025

The CoTech call today we discussed what would be need to be done to organise a CoTech stall to promote CoTech at Co-op Congress in Rochdale, 4th-5th July 2025, this is going to be a bigger than usual event due to the UN year of co-ops and the ICA Festival of Co-operatives, if we do agree to proceed with this we will probably need to use some of the CoTech fund to pay for things like booking the stall and banners etc, when we have a better idea about the numbers we can add a poll to this thread, what do people think, is this a good idea? All of us on the call today thought it was!

Hi, yes I agree that's a good idea. Thanks for coming up with it. Yes I think it's worth spending some money

Thanks for supporting the funding of a CoTech stall at co-op congress for 2025!

Tomorrow a SolidFund proposal for £2000 for CoTech Brand Refresh for Coops Congress 2025 should be approved, however since that proposal was written we have found out that a stall at Co-op Congress will cost £500 (we should also get a free ticket for a CoTech speaker to participate in a panel discussion). We discussed this in the CoTech call today and agreed to post a proposal here to pay £500 for the stall out of the CoTech fund.

Seems a sensible use of funds

Just as an observation (and as a Congress veteran, I started out taking my roller banner and business cards to the Belfast Congress in 2003) while it's a real business networking opportunity, spending much time behind a stall is not a good use of time and energy, so suggest our stand is designed to be largely 'self service' and we use the time to go round other peoples' stands and ask questions about what they do and what they need, as a way to open doors/make useful contacts. VME co-op really works these events to do do business, to the extent of regularly sponsoring the retail consumer co-op conference which has already happened this year. In future years I suggest that conference might be a more fruitful ground. The problem imo with the big co-ops is that they feel safer outsourcing to big facilities management companies - they are pretty impervious to 'principle six' business pitching - although Calverts did do some brilliant one-off business with Co-op Group and Co-ops UK itself was a big client for five years or so.

Thanks @sionwhellens we will take on your advice and I agree that we should aim to have a CoTech stall at the co-op retail conference in 2026, this is something that Vica suggested to me last year.
