Coooooooool! I had no idea you could do that in a spreadsheet! Since the check poll has closed, I would say go ahead with the poll ASAP! Please include a link to the spreadsheet on the poll and highlight the selected books so people can find the relevant ones easily. I dehighlight and rehighlight each month for my hackerspace club...

Michele Kipiel Mon 29 Jan 2018 9:53AM
Cool stuff! How do we pick the "finalists" though? They all are very interesting :)

Erik Moeller Tue 30 Jan 2018 1:21AM
I've used the RNG to pick five books from the spreadsheet, and I suggest we each pick our top 3 among those (I narrowed it to 3 so we have to make an additional tradeoff choice beyond the ranking, but I figure we'll iterate on the voting process as we go).
This is my first Lomio vote so please let me know if I messed anything up :)

The good news is we have chosen our next reading: Ours to Hack and to Own: The Rise of Platform Cooperativism.
The bad news is I was the person who put that on the list, meaning that I am facilitating twice in a row -- if anyone would rather facilitate this one, feel free. ;-)
Rank your choices.

I feel like I am not familiar enough with the field to suggest books yet, but looking forward to read the next book selection

Michele Kipiel Sun 8 Jul 2018 10:54AM
Hi all,
sorry for letting the past week fly by without any updates. I am now selecting the books using https://www.random.org/ to randomly select the 8 books that will be put to the votes. Poll coming soon! :)
mike_hales Sun 8 Jul 2018 4:24PM
@michelekipiel Could you add this book to the master list, out of which you do random selections:
- Capra & Mattei (2015), The ecology of law - Toward a legal system in tune with nature and community, Berrett-Koehler.
Toward a law framework for post-capitalism.

Hi @mikeh8 , the reading selection spreadsheet can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZvZ_MLq1dAVBCY7-e9Iylg-qxWYqkcptjvOnkyOTeTA/edit?usp=sharing.
There are also descriptions for the books there as well which helps with selection.
mike_hales Sun 8 Jul 2018 6:44PM
Thanks Emi. I did discover the spreadsheet after I’d posted my query. Unfortunately, I don’t use resources that require a Google ID.

Michele Kipiel Mon 9 Jul 2018 6:43AM
Hi @mikeh8, I added that book personally as soon as the list was created :) Such a great read!

Matt Noyes Mon 9 Jul 2018 3:06PM
If there are no objections, I can convert the spreadsheet to an Ethercalc document...

Michele Kipiel Tue 10 Jul 2018 5:27PM
Works for me, let's wait for some more feedback though :)

And the winner is... "Values at Work Employee Participation Meets Market Pressure at Mondragon" by G. Cheney!
Let the reading begin :)
As usual, I I will set up a poll in the coming days to pick a date for the discussion call next month.
Let's choose the next book we want to read!
The book descriptions can be found on this spreadsheet.

@michelekipiel I'd much rather be doing a dot-vote on this, since there are only one or two books I'm keen to read. Sorting eight into a hierarchy is more work than I feel like giving to the remainder. And might seem to support them.
Matthew Cropp Sun 8 Jul 2018 7:18PM
Dot voting on this type of decision doesn't work well (tried it in a different reading group, and we decided ranked choice works better), but what I prefer is to have it set to only rank the top four of the eight. The flow of the approved decision making process is in the description of the sub-group for reference.
Also, @michelekipiel, I'm going to edit the description of the poll to embed the link to the spreadsheet so folks can easily access the book descriptions.

Michele Kipiel Mon 9 Jul 2018 6:44AM
Thanks!
Matthew Cropp Mon 16 Jul 2018 10:08PM
Really excited to read this one! @mattnoyes selections seem to be good ones... ;)

Matt Noyes Mon 16 Jul 2018 10:11PM
You're too kind. Actually, this time I am confident we can set up a follow-up chat with George Cheney.

Caitlin Waddick, @[email protected] Tue 31 Jul 2018 1:23PM
The original publication date is 1999. The Updated Edition is 2002. My library system has the original. Amazon.com sells the Updated Edition for $25. I wonder what’s in the update.
[deactivated account] Mon 6 Aug 2018 5:06PM
I just requested this via inter-library loan, so if it arrives in time to read, I'll be excited to join the discussion.
Erik Moeller · Mon 29 Jan 2018 12:13AM
Okay, I think we're almost ready to get started. I've added a random book selector to the spreadsheet, here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZvZ_MLq1dAVBCY7-e9Iylg-qxWYqkcptjvOnkyOTeTA/edit#gid=570362544
Feel free to tweak it. If that works for folks, in the next few days, I'll run it to generate options for a poll. So please get your suggestions into the "Proposed Books" section now if you haven't already :-)
