If you have not read parts 1 & 2 I've linked them. Let's discuss how we might collaborate on part 3 if you're interested...

I'm going to abstain for now, only because I think this could use some more brainstorming to get it solidified. This is a great direction I think...

I think this needs some good polish and thoughts to make it all come together, but I love the direction. I don't like things to be so obviously good/evil though. Maybe they just don't believe that a distributed consciousness was helping them.

This is what I have so far. Let me know what you think and if any changes are needed:
The heroes of the exodus.

That’s what we call them now. At the time, in the wake of the virus, it was utter chaos. There was hardly any organisation left to take care of people or deliver whatever food, water and medicine was left viable.

They spread out so it took awhile before the survivors noticed there were more than a few. At first they were just hailed them as saviors. They had a plan. They had the organisation, somehow, to get things done even in that confused, corpse filled hell.

The workforce they employed was mostly low grade drones copied over from the Meritocracy. SFEOS was completely on board and helped coordinate the relief efforts around the planet. 6 months after they came out the first planet wide conference call took place, mediated by SFESO.

A few representatives from each survivor community went online and talked about plans for the future. The con call took 3 days but after it they finally had a plan. They intended to cannibalize whatever resources they could from the planet and construct large ships to spread across the stars. Humans came far too close to extinction on Merikos I and none of them liked it.

Some wanted to stay and that was fine too but most chose to leave the planet where so many of their friends and family died. After months of grave digging there was hardly one without some sort of PTSD.

Building the ships and deciding where to go are very different things and the heroes said that with SFEOS’s help they have found a sort of map to safely traverse large areas of space. The idea they would all leave together was shot down quickly - if the idea was to insure survival they had to spread as far as possible. Some of them may survive.

The heroes were everywhere and helped with everything. It wasn’t really apparent at the time but from the few records we have left they were smarter, faster, stronger and could go for prolonged periods on little to no sleep and food. There were lots of conspiracy theories of course, but after such a wide scale disaster they all had to work together to ensure survival.

We have a spotty vid record of one of the ships making that first jump. We all know what they found once they jumped, but for them I’m sure it was both fascinating and terrifying.

To be continued..
