being able to "like" a discussion

Alanna Irving PublicSeen by 49

Often times I want to "like" a whole discussion to show that I have read it. But I don't want to leave a useless comment such as "good discussion topic!" because it's noisy. I wish I could "like" the whole thing...

@alannakrause sometimes i want it too...

I think that is a good idea!

Conversely, sometimes I want to leave a discussion, and discretely let people know that I'm leaving. Like 'I'm actively not participating in this'.

John Graham

Thing is, the thing I want to 'like' is often the conversation starter itself. But that would mean 'liking' the context box, which is editable, and, well, that could cause some problems (as you may already have discussed... :P )

John Graham

You could separate the conversation starter from the context box. This would mean, effectively, reversing the first comment and the context box.

You could make the conversation starter un-deletable, uneditable, (and perhaps force tweet-length). That way, you could all like the heck out of it ;). Then the context box can be iteratively improveable, to avoid crypticism, and, to get better and better at explaining “What the Heck Was I Thinking When I Posted This?”, as well as indicating where the discussion has gone in the meantime.

Sometimes the context box with no starter makes no sense at all, looking back.

[btw It was “piggy-backing” from here that I got the idea expanded I posted in this conversation on better summaries ]

definitely been feeling that a discussion often wants to start with a comment, not a context

@richarddbartlett I agree. Having to write a context may actually inhibit discussions. Perhaps the context area could move into the right hand panel and be optional.

Having just watched the videos regarding the future redesign my comment regarding the right hand panel will be irrelevant.
