Determine Features for Minimumally Viable Product (MVP)

Hi Ladies! We're one month into our course, and we have two months left. Since we never know what might interfere with our studies, and it's possible some of us will be scrambling at the end to get the actual course work done, let's concentrate on what MUST be in the app. That way we make sure we have a project published to the Play Store to show for all of our hard work. When we finish the MVP we can always add additional features on top. Does this sound like a good plan?

• Pull in resources (either from google sheets or into firebase) - Jen
• Display the resources by categories
• UI Design
• Search for content
• Offline mode / Database integration with Room? - Janice
• Update to database when google sheets get updated
• Launch web contents
• Setting to hide/show content

Other nice to haves:
- Allow users to tag resources (e.g., PDF, web, etc.)
- Let users vote on resources (we can use this to rank the resources higher)
- Let users identify/mark dead contents (e.g., dead links)
- Support tablet version

So what do we think the user experience should look like? Each resource is assigned a category, so for the MVP should the first screen offer a pull-down displaying those categories? Once the user selects a category those resources are displayed in a RecyclerView? @oa this is your forte; what are your thoughts?

@oa I like the basic look a lot. It's clean, simple and very self explanatory as to how the user should use it. Question - and this may just be my preference and you may already be refining the look, but can we make the font a bit smaller and less padding between items? I wonder if there's an ideal ratio for how many RecyclerView items should be displayed within a single mobile screen.

I'll see what the guidelines are -- the other option could be several dropdowns or clickable cards with icons on them.

Should there just be a basic search right from the start so the user can start typing in what they are looking for in case they don't know what category I might be under?

Its good to show the all categories when the app is launched.
