Quoting people's text in a reply
A new user has given me the following feedback:
There's no obvious option to quote people's text in a reply.
It would be great if this could be addressed.
@neilmorris I personally copy and paste what I want to reply to, then put a > before it, which turns what I'm replying to into a quote, like this:
I’ve found the @ function has been enough for me so but it’d be a nice addition.
@-replies are useful indeed, and the copy + paste + > trick fills in the rest of the functionality I personally need :-).
One level of comment threading (similar to how Facebook handles replies to comments) is in the backlog: https://trello.com/c/SAMuMFoc
So it "reply to comment" https://trello.com/c/wVrTAWyq
@jameskiesel that second card is in the current sprint - do you know what the status is? We didn't spec it out so I'm not sure if it will meet the need being described here.
They're different enough to be two different features for consideration, I think. The current feature in development will just say 'in reply to @alannakrause` after the comment, I believe, but yeah it's not 100% spec'ed at the moment.

Markdown can handle block quotes just fine, although I wonder if there's a non-annoying way to highlight someone's text and paste it into your comment field as a blockquote. A markdown preview field and more user-friendly documentation around using Markdown would probably go a long way towards solving this particular concern, though.
I am a new loomio user, part of a test group a friend setup to see if loomio would work for our organization. This is one of the first things I've found frustrating about loomio... that there's no easy way to quote someone else's post and reply. Maybe I'm too used to discussion boards where that's been a standard feature for 20 years.
It was nice, in reading the replies, to find out that I can use a > before some pasted text to show it as a quote.
And I'm not sure if this is in another thread somewhere, but I'm very used to direct replies being displayed indented under the original comment (like Facebook currently handles replies). Maybe I'm stuck on wanting loomio to be more like discussion boards and/or Facebook, but better. And I'm just not used to it. But I wanted to throw that out there.

Our cooperative just started to heavily use Loomio and this feature that was in your backlog 3 years ago would very much be desired.
