Extended Vacation

S [email protected] Public Seen by 149

I would like to request some time off from work, around 4 weeks to be able to go see my parents in India. I am making a trip to India after 3 years and this would mean a lot to me and my family. My flying time (one way) will be around 22 hrs plus road commute another 5 hours. Keeping this in mind I am making a request for 4 weeks.
Because of family commitments and considering the difference in ticket prices from month to month basis, it would be difficult for me to consider doing it at a different time. However, I will try and keep an open mind to the advice I receive.

I understand that I am fairly new to the organization and the time away will affect the work load.
This has been discussed with the AR group already as this decision impacts them directly. I have received buy in to go forward with putting this decision up on Loomio.

I am mindful of the sensitive time we as a team are going through, transition from one ERP to another will be challenging. Having said that, my AR team has bought into me going on this trip provided that I take full ownership over arranging training and coverage of my daily tasks. I also take full ownership of clearing my pending job duties before I leave. They have also advised me to have flexibility when considering my vacation length and timing of my vacation.
I realize it is important to take radical responsibility when making a decision this big and invite anyone to offer honest feedback.

Hello everyone,

I would like to thank each one of you for weighing in on this advise process, it helped me to reflect how this vacation will impact others.
I would like to share that I have decided to go on this trip for 3 weeks. I will be away from work starting May 31st and return on June 21st.
Thanks to my intact team who consented to cover my job duties in my absence.

From a CS perspective, I am not the most impacted by your proposal to go on vacation for 4 weeks. As such, it's easier for me to agree to your proposal since you've already mentioned that you have a plan in place for coverage. Please weigh any input that AP or Payroll members offer you with careful consideration since they are most likely to be impacted by your decision (which I'm sure you'll do anyway but putting it out there!)

Considering that my team is supporting me in taking a week off right after go live, I am committed to supporting Shivani in taking this time off. As we do not know how smooth the transition from JDE to GP will be for invoicing, I will take on the Shivani's invoicing/distribution tasks when she is away. However the hope is that GP takes over the majority of Shivani's invoicing duties so I am willing and able to support coverage in whatever way needed.

Like I said in my comments section you need to take everything into consideration when considering how long you take.

What are the dates in question? 4 weeks is a long time.

d ones to make memories for years to come; I fully support anyone to take a trip and visit their family—especially if they live so far. My only concern is that the timing is extremely sensitive with the ERP. If you are flexible, are you willing to cut your vacation shorter than your decided 4 weeks?

Though I wish the timing was better and that we had more notice, I am ok to support Shivani going on this trip. I agree with Helen that Shivani takes into consideration the length of the vacation or pushing the date back, if possible. This ERP transition is crucial, and we also can't push the pause button on life&family because we don't know what the future will look like. My advice for Shivani is to seek out feedback from her advisers, post-trip, to learn of the impact her absence had (if any).

I am a big advocate for everyone taking vacation and of course extended vacation when someone is travelling so far and at such an expense. I worry about the timing of this vacation and the impact on the team with the ERP go live date. I am not saying i can't support this decision i just want to be sure that all those effected have a say in the decision. Seeing as the ERP effects everyone and this vacation is likely to impact the entire core ops team then maybe more advice is appropriate.

Everyone should be taking their vacation and we need that time to decompress and refresh. Please take into consideration that we are not sure what the transition to GP from JDE will look like and how long it will take us to get up to full speed. I know that it will be all hands on deck during the transition, that might take a few months to have us up and running and bug free. During this transition we might have to call upon some people to help other departments as was done during testing but with a live scenario the urgency is that much greater. With an extended leave it might become that much more stressful for your team mates (your direct intact group but also the larger core ops team) in doing their own jobs, the GP transition and taking on additional takes for an extended period of time. Please take all these things into consideration before making your final decision. I don't disagree but I think that you might need to take all these things into consideration before deciding on how much time you take off.
