Scotty Foster
Is a solar powered, radio broadcasting, co-operative creating, organic growing, earth and people protecting lunatic worker from Canberra, Australia.

He currently earns a meagre living doing on and off grid solar, and general electrical work.

His real work involves creating a co-operative commonwealth, through community groups (Co-operatives, Commons and Communities Canberra and the New Economy Network of Australia), and community radio (Community Radio 2XXFM98.3 - Behind the Lines show).

He grew up in a working class area of Canberra, spending plenty of time in the surrounding bush.

After being evicted from Ginninderra high school he went to the School Without Walls, where he learned that a bunch of freaks, rejects and misfits off the street could run a school as a democratic collective - with a much better outcome for the students than a government or private institution could muster. He also learned here the true impact a mutually respecting, self organising, diverse community can have.

This morphing of his mind to see the true possibilities of human communities, along with a 10 day Permaculture course at Cows Nest near Bega, NSW, laid bare the lack of integrated design within our planning institutions, and the lack of even a basic understanding of nature within all of our cultural frameworks. This changed the course of his life (for the better).

He moved onto and worked for well over a decade on his families certified organic veggie farm, got horticulture / organic farming trade qualifications, volunteered with the NSW Rural Fire Brigade and State Emergency Service, and campaigned against short sighted forestry practices, uranium mining, continual mining pollution of First Nations land and water, and against imprisoning those from abroad who are asking for our help.

He got tired of talking to the lettuces, the repetition of JJJ radio, and yelling at radio national that they were continually missing the point. He began volunteering with Community Radio 2XX and has been there ever since. He recently spent a year on the Board.

He met a fine young lass, they had a fine young family, and got themselves a fine young hound and some fine young chickens, and plants, and things.... They all still love and enjoy and annoy each other.

Over time, after many interviews and many conversations, talking at length with many folks involved with many different issues, it became obvious that the root cause underlying most of humanities current problems lay within the organisational structure of Human society.
Peoples true wealth lies in a healthy community, and achieving this requires a healthy soil, locality, region, and planet, as well as a healthy democracy.

These are all being actively undermined by a microcultural scramble to hoard as much money as possible, using any means necessary, in the shortest period of time, regardless of what the cost to others may be.

Salvaging the best natural and human wealth of our past and present, ending the present pillage of people and planet, and helping design appropriate ways for human populations to live within the earth into the unforseeable future are his current obsessions.

He can't think of anything better to do with his life.

I'm Ann Smith, producing Tango Capital on Sunday evenings, and I have been asked to join the Community & Volunteer Engagement group because I have been sending bulk communications for the station (Crew News, for instance, and subscriber newsletters) since mid-2016. This means that I have a fair bit of knowledge about what isn't working.

Hi Martin. I present "News from the Drug War Front" which has recently shifted from 2-4pm Tuesdays to 10:30am-noon on Tuesdays. The show has been going for over 15 years now. We aim to inform and educate listeners about what we see as the abject failure of the “war on drugs” or to describe it more accurately, the “war on people who use drugs”. We cover and discuss local, national and international stories and drug law reform issues from an alternative perspective to that of the mainstream media who essentially come from a drug war/prohibition perspective. The 3 United Nations Conventions essentially require countries to place the issue of substance use within a criminal justice framework rather than a human rights and personal freedom paradigm. The vast majority of drug related harm can be laid at the feet of prohibition.
