Loomio

Cobudget within loomio ?

Hello. I was wondering if there was any plan to develop interoperability between loomio and cobudget...?

James Kiesel

Not at this time, no. It's been proposed and discussed quite a bit in the past, but to my mind there hasn't been a clear and compelling case for why and how the two tools should be connected, in a way that wouldn't already be covered by a (still theoretical) Zapier / IFTTT type integration.

Thanks for your reply. I'll have a closer look at possibilities...

I've played with cobudget a bit, but it feels too individualized (each person has a pot of $$ they are personally responsible for allocating) for most of the projects I use Loomio for, so dot-poll based participatory budgeting generally fills our need.

I'm not terribly familiar with CoBudget but I can imagine a use case like:
My user cooperative has ten free code server package that we run for our members. One of them is a Loomio server we use for cooperative decision-making. Each month (or year), we want to donate our surplus (what's left of income after covering expenses and wages) to the teams that make those ten packages.

Each project has a CoBudget instance they use to divvy up their income internally. They represent their projected spending over the coming year as a set of CoBudget buckets. They give users donating the option to convert their donation into CoBudget tokens, and decide what buckets to put them in.

We have two (sets of) decisions to make:
* how to share our pool of surplus among the ten projects, which might be influence by what the state of each projects' finances is
* which internal buckets to drop our donation to each project in, or whether to leave that decision to them
