Missing item in Ranked Vote

DS Darren Stebeleski Public Seen by 357

Hello everyone,

I noticed that for some reason the "Income Inequality & LICO" resolution wasn't being included in the Ranked Vote; after some tinkering I was able to get it included in the list, but it had the strange effect of bumping everyone's number 1 vote to number 2 (number 1 is just non-existent).

What I would suggest is that if you feel that you want to include that resolution in your ranking, to take a screenshot of your ranking as it stands, and then go in and change your vote to now include the 24th resolution (really the screenshot is just extra insurance, because when you go in to change your vote, Loomio should display your ranking as you previously had it, but with the 24th resolution present).

I deeply apologize for the inconvenience; it's our first big group vote using Loomio, and while it's mostly going very well, I suppose there had to be a glitch somewhere.

Darren

Hi Darren,
Don’t worry about the “Income Inequality & LICO” resolution not being included. The phrasing was not very good and the part about "tax reductions to help the middle class” which is in the current text of section 1.7 (d) and not our ridding association member’s words, spooked some people in our group. My mistake and inexperience with writing up these resolutions. What the initiator of the resolution intended was to exempt the poorest from taxation by raising the basic allowance. My input in this, was to fix the threshold for poverty quantitatively based on a Government defined and measured formula. There is pressure from right wing think tanks (the Fraser Institute) to change the definition of poverty to exclude large numbers and to use their criterion for eliminating social programs. Without an agreed and measurable threshold for poverty, any policy about poverty reduction is just a slogan.

I’ll fix the wording in our Orleans Riding list of proposals and if we manage to get to vote (on-line or in a meeting), we’ll do our best from there.

There are other resolutions I feel are more pressing (eg. the one on Palestine) and I wouldn’t want anything to distract from getting that work done.

Thanks for everything

Cheers
