Inua (short film)

Hello community members.
If you were able to attend the first proposal meeting, you already get the

'Inua' is a passion project that Winston Sylvans has been mulling around for a year now. It is a biographical epoch piece about a man, his mother and his partner. Inua and the unnamed man – who disconnected themselves from the anxious relatives and societal expectations, and allowed themselves space to grow have to question all they had come to know when the man's mother pays an unexpected visit.
Co-written by Winston Sylvans and Edwin Okolo, Inua starts out slightly voyeuristic and finishes with the conflict panning out.
Inua's visual interest also relies on the camera behind the characters often to give a more prurient feel. It'll most likely be shot on a 27 mm or 32 mm lens with zoomed in shot to exaggerate emotions and characteristics. The audience is often presented with the images of the backs of their heads, attesting to a difficulty of access to them as people. They are characters that even at their most open and vulnerable remain apart from a complete understanding, yet the camera set up also positions the audience in a similar prospective to the character, seeing what they see.

To shoot this film, we will need four locations;
the airport - if possible,
an apartment,
a garden,
and a swimming pool.

For equipment;
lights,
two cameras and stands,
two microphones with handles.

And six actors.

So, we'll need an older female actress and three male actors. We already have two of the six actors down. We wouldn't mind auditioning any amateur actors. If we can lend any of the equipment or locations, we'd be very grateful. If not, our budget estimate is N 200,000.

Hey @echezor, great thread and I am looking forward to seeing the result of this project. Already a big fan based on the mood board!

I just wanted to clarify our earlier discussion about proposals on here cos I think your proposal needs to be more targeted.

You have already laid out all the various facets of the production, but what exactly are people voting on? The budget itself? The locations? The dates for the auditions? That there should be auditions at all?

The idea of the main thread you have created is for discussion related to the entire project. If it makes it easier, imagine the thread as a sort of Whatsapp group with all the people interested in the project contributing and chatting about it. So all discussion related to the project should happen in here. Things like the script can be uploaded, actor/actress headshots and audition clips uploaded and recce reports from the various locations discussed and so on.

Proposals are then brought up when SPECIFIC decisions need to be made based on the discussions you have had so far. So, to continue with the examples I used earlier: "This is the final edit of the script, should we go ahead with this?"

You make a proposal. People vote.

"Should we go with actor Fernando Cortez as the main character based on his audition clip?"

You make a proposal. People vote.

"We were unable to get the airport as a location, but my aunt says she can get us Port-Harcourt airport. Should we go there?"

You make a proposal. People vote.

That's sort of thing, all in the same thread.

The idea is that your team can make democratic decisions about stuff related to the film and everything is transparent, organised and more. The voting process is also dynamic since people can change their vote up until the end of the given proposal and people in favour of one point of view can argue their case as and after they have voted in the thread.

Hope that makes it clearer! I think I will also post a tweaked version of this elsewhere so people can make the most of their project threads if it helps.

Ah! I see @yegwaukpo , thanks for clarifying that. I'll make it more specific in the future.

Equipment for Inua Closed Wed 18 Jan 2017 2:03PM

Hi everyone,
Please disregard the previous proposal. It was a jumbled mess. And I'm going to be more specific. I'd like to start with the equipment. We're going to need;
standing lights (LED or something inexpensive but efficient),
two or three cameras/pro-camcorders and tripods,
two windshield microphones with handles.

If you can lend any of the equipment, we'd be very grateful. If not, we'd like suggestions on places we can rent them from for a reasonable amount.
If you can lend any of the equipment or know a place that rents, please comment to your vote so I or Edwin can contact you.
Thanks :smiley:
