Advice Process: Scottish Burners Code of Conduct
Hi lovely Scottish Burners!
At Celtic Burn 2025 and at subsequent events, we had a discussion of creating a Code of Conduct for our community. Here is a draft of that Code of Conduct. Please participate and give us your feedback, either on Loomio, or directly on the Google document.
Why we need a Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct forms the basic agreement of what constitutes acceptable behaviour in our community. It must be agreed to by everyone who buys a ticket or joins official communication channels like our Telegram chat. It should lay out expected positive behaviours, what behaviours are unacceptable, how to raise concerns, and an outline of how those concerns will be handled.
How we wrote the Code of Conduct
A good Code of Conduct must be written clearly and in a way that is accessible by everyone, such as directly linked from online resources. To ensure this, ours is directly adapted from the Nowhere Code of Conduct, with some changes detailed at the top of the doc. If you find the Nowhere CoC acceptable, it is our hope that you will agree to ours.
Proposal
That the community agrees to a code of conduct, defined here.
That agreeing to the code of conduct is required to participate in Celtic Burn (becomes a condition of buying a membership), the Telegram chat, and other official events or communication channels.
What is Next?
The Code of Conduct is the foundation of how we handle inappropriate behaviour. Processes like Telegram admin actions and future problematic persons protocols will rely on this document. Let's start by agreeing what is OK, in broad strokes, and move forward with how we handle breaches in future APs.
I will leave this AP open until the start of Celtic Burn, then we will hold a final discussion on Tuesday 21 July at Celtic Burn, time and location available at the morning meeting.
How to Participate
Please provide feedback here in Loomio, or as comments or suggestions ("suggest mode") on the Code of Conduct Google doc itself. This document is open to comment/suggestion from anyone with the link.
Please suggest only changes that materially change/add/remove from the meaning of the Code of Conduct. Please do not suggest small changes in wording ("wordsmithing"). One of our goals is to avoid diverging from established, well-tested documents like the Nowhere CoC.

Thanks for all the effort here!!! This is an awesome start. Like you said in the comments, following documents/processes need to be developed but this sets a standard that we really need written down.

Thanks for creating this code of conduct, you’ve done a great job! I like that it’s not massive like some terms & conditions which makes it easy to read to the end.
Because it’s a working document I am thinking it could be sent to everyone before Celtic Burn 2026, as a form when the thrival guide gets sent out, to tick a box that they have read it & agree to it
Bit like if you book a climbing wall, sauna etc. any activity where there are potential risks to yourself, others &/or the organisation from litigation.

Document looks good overall. I've a few issues with some parts (& I've been nit-picky and pedantic about it) that I've mentioned in comments. Hopefully we'll get a good range of discussion and input.
