Is pagination problematic?
Currently, with pagination, if a new discussion is posted whilst you are scanning through pages of discussions, there is a good chance you will end up not seeing one of the discussions in the discussions list (because the discussion will end up moving to another page whilst you are browsing).
I just wanted to mention this to the team as something to think about for when we redesign. Note that endless scrolling (while it has other problems) does not have this problem.
Just food for thought... let me know if this is not clear and you want me to explain further.
Yea..
if I have 2 pages of stuff
page 1: D,C
page 2: B,A
and I create a new item E
page 1: E,D
page 2: C,B
page 3: A
Looks ok to me so long as we use reverse chronological order. Am I missing something?
@robertguthrie yes, I didn't mention the fact that I was going back to front. So in your example I would miss C.
Up till now, the way I have been using Loomio if I have a backlog of discussions to catch up on is to start from the oldest discussions and move forward to the newest discussion. I'm assuming I'm not the only one who does this. I probably won't do this from now on (since I know it doesn't work), but the fact that pagination as a concept is inherently broken when working back-to-front makes me think it's probably not a good solution.
Nice to hear the use case. It's exactly that that I want to understand, because loomio should be proving you with the information you want in the order that makes sense.. rather that expect you to go back to front for your daily usage. Thanks Jon
The other problem is that you have to trawl though lots of pages to see what discussion have already happened/ are taking place. I'd much prefer endless scrolling myself (or the option to display more discussion per page, up to and including an 'show all' option)
Although, yes, I agree that the problem outlined in the context is indeed a problem. I'm going through the discussion pages trying to see if the issues I'd like to discuss have been already raised and am missing some stuff because while I'm going through the many pages they are moving position. I guess the forth coming search feature that @robertguthrie is working on should help resolve this a bit too though (in that is should remove the necessity to go through page by page looking for stuff in the first place)
Hrrrm interesting. I would have thought it would mean you see a duplicate listing.
