LOCAL TICKETS

PB plan B Public Seen by 385

This thread follows the conversation we had during our last ML call on the topic of local tickets. Considering in the past few years we had an increased number of problems with some locals (finding many sneacking in, a few ones with normal ticket helping others sneak in, and a few others behaving inapropietely), some ML feel we should abolish the local ticket and give access to more low income tickets for locals on a budget. Some other ML feel like we should keep the local ticket but raise the price. Others feel like keeping the ticket at a low price (ex. 50 euros) but, like we did last year, ask people to apply for these tickets submitting a project proposal (art, workshops, barrio etc...).

NOTE: THE DIRECTORS INFORMED ME THAT THEY FEEL LIKE THIS DECISION IS PART OF THEIR REMIT, SO THE GOAL OF THIS LOOMIO-THREAD IS TO PROVIDE THEM WITH OUR OPINION SO THEY CAN MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE.

I don´t see a way, in Loomio, to start a proposal with several options, so please just leave a quick comment below with your opinion (there´s 4 choices explained in the ´previous proposals´on the right of your screen).

Thank you!!

So confusing...other earlier proposals are closed the same time they started so we can't vote on them...

Ward, just put a comment saying what your opinion is on what to do.

I do not necessarily mind having specific tickets for locals, but would like to up the price a bit. We want to give the local community the opportunity to come and experience our event, but after the reports on helping people sneak in, entering people's tents, theft, etc. I feel we shouldn't make it too easy for the wrong locals to come in. Though we want to include the local community, if they can't play nice with the other kids we should protect our participants from unwanted visitors.

I'm not opposed to Bruce's idea and merge local tickets with low income.

My personal opinion is to remove all special treatment for locals.
Because honestly they are not "special" people, either in a positive or negative connotation. They are just people, like you and me.
If they want to attend they either pay the full price ticket or apply for a low income ticket, like every other participant.

By the way Joyce, I personally find the implication that higher prices are a good way to keep the "wrong people" away a bit dangerous...

If we up the ticket prices we create more of a threshold for people who 'don't really get it' to attend our event. I'm not claiming it'll keep all the bad people out.

I know, I´ve struggled to find a multi-option way but apparently there´s none (maybe the paid version has one, I will enquire for next time). As Ugo said, put your opinion and whe´ll get an idea from there, thanks!

For anyone not from the region, there is a significant barrier in travel time and effort to come to Nowhere. Like it or not, this barrier excludes a lot of people that might otherwise come to see the naked hippies and drink the free booze. Locals already lack this barrier, so we will logically have more locals that are less motivated than we have other population. Encouraging this with an additional discount seems contrary to the ethos we are trying to have as an event.
At the same time, in the spirit of equal treatment and inclusion (under the condition that you're willing to live by our principles), I don't think we should treat locals differently from other participants: they should be able to buy tickets, request low income tickets, and like all other participants, we should expect them to spend a minimum number of nights on site. (This latter requirement is implicitly made to other participants through travel time.)

I don't think locals should be treated differently but should be given the option to apply for a low income ticket in the same way as everyone else. Low income tickets could be a little cheaper, so I agree with the 80 Euro proposal!

I also agree that locals should be treated the same as any other participant. They have the option to apply for low income, and we can add to the pool of those tickets if need be.

I would rise local tickets to 80 euros for this year (so people who just come to get drunk during the weekend will think twice, even if this price is similar to a 3 days music festival in Spain) and next year either rise it or equalize this with low income tickets, informing better about low income, making some educational talks or installations during the event, etc.

I think that most of local people can afford with no problem even a general ticket, but in Spain we always want to have privileges or get stuff cheaper if possible. I don’t know why locals should pay less than people who are writing in a form their difficulties to pay their bills. If someone really wants to come, participate, spend a week (or 3) in the desert, they are going to do it even if this suppose an effort in their economy.

We should promote more the artist ticket and the different inclusion projects we have going on. It’s nice that we want to be nice with the locals and not be seen as foreign people that come to mess in their land, maybe facilitating them to buy a ticket because some of then may start to think about the festival in June, yes, but definitely not giving random wristbands for free.
