There are several issues / feature requests on github affecting the #tags view. Let's discuss and vote which we want to implement/drop.

This needs to be configurable which will add more code complexity. Also sharing that information across pods will add more complexity. I don't think that we need that feature.

I think this can help newcomers to find contacts who share the same interest. It may counterbalance the impression of loneliness for these newcomers (in opposition to other really crowded social networks).

I'm voting yes but I would like it redesigned.

1) Show some LOCAL users who explicitly agree in their settings to expose their tag followings (off by default)
2) Text changed to for example: "Some local users following this tag"

No federation.

Not a good idea. Showing local people just adds to the confusion, sharing followed tags with pods is not a option. Visibility per followed tag is complex (UX wise too). We have profile tags for that reason, separation of concerns is a good thing.

I think this vote is not precise enough. The implementation is very important. Let's imagine a mockup first, and then vote about it.

I think showing a couple of LOCAL users could be good, it encourages interaction between members on the same pod. But it has to be opt in. If this goes ahead, I think that the tag followers don't need to be shared across pods.

But I tend to disagree: I guess people who follow #nsfw probably don't want other people to know that...

Want to vote 'no' but as proposal is not specific I think I have to abstain for now. See comment for more details on what I think.

This is useless complexity added to tags. When I browse a tag, all I want are the posts related to that tag, not the people who follow it.

I think it's a useful way to find people with common interests, or people that are a part of an organization or community, such as #Mozilla, #FSF, #Ubuntu, etc.
