Apologies: Ricky Jefferyes, Francois Grespel, Berge Der Sarkissian.
Meeting “Check-in”
Joum – Hi Good to be here
Nick – Hi Good to be here
Oliver – Interested to test ooVoo
Paul – Good to be here. Keen to see a solid structure created for our group.
Sven – Talked about the timing of the next Tasmanian election.

Minutes of the previous meeting: were passed by the group on loomio.
Strategy:
* Administration
Joum – Not much to report.
* Database
Oliver – Not much to report. Talked about email to berge and adrian. Still waiting for response.
Paul – asked what time frame might be for database.
Oliver – not sure. Oliver spoke about the fields of the membership form.
Paul – asked if the group needs any help.
Oliver - said No, they have no access to the database yet.
* Fundraising
Oliver – Has created the group in Loomio. Asked if anyone would like to join. - (No response)
* Newsletter
Oliver Ricky has been elected as delegate.
Joum – said in future he will take a lead position if no progress.
Paul – Game of stamina. As long as we keep working on it.
* Social Media
Joum – said Peter Lindsay, Ricky, and Joum have been contributing.
Paul – while the Government having bad popularity we have a better chance of grabbing public's attention.
* Voting Software
Joum – Spoke about new members in loomio.
* Website
Oliver – Started a list of things we need to do. Need more instruction from Adrian.
Paul – asked, is it too soon to know if you need help?
Oliver – answered No, don't need help.
*Internal Governance
Paul – Is about how we make decisions and turn energy into actions. Wants people to join loomio group. 3 ways of making decisions. Need to refine the process. Eg. This meeting is a general management meeting so the groups can know what each other is up to. Asked if we can go around group to see who wanted to be in the group.
Joum – yes.
Nick – thinks internal governance is low priority. Number one goal is to get senator elected. If SOL gets 400,000 votes in an election eligible for funding. We need to understand preferential voting system better. SOL has its best chance in Senate election via preference deals. All our activities should be working towards these.
Actions:
1. Understand Preferences
2. Publicity around elections
3. Select Candidates
Oliver – Yes, include in group.
Paul – Yes
Sven – add to loomio group.
General Business
Sven – Talked about elections in Tasmania and Name Change.
Paul – would be good to get a debrief of the last election from Adrian Z as he was the campaign manager in the last election. Asked Oliver if he could talk to Adrian.
Oliver – Yes.
* Name Change
Sven – The name SOL has already got some recognition but not in council elections.
Joum – suggest we talk on loomio SOL Australia about:
1. Potential Names
2. SOL being active in all levels of government.
Paul – Hopes to get a speaker from Irish Direct Democracy Party. They did very well in elections. Www.ddaustralia.com.au already taken by another party.
* Tasmanian Council
Paul asked Sven is he proposing running for council?
Sven – not himself but could be lots of other potential candidates.
Paul – Suggest Sven asks potential candidates if they are interested.
Sven – agreed to do.
*Strategy
Paul – Asked What are our priorities?
Joum – Our group achieving something, like newsletter. Aquiring more help and getting more members.

Nick –
1. 400,000 votes in an election
2. Senator Elected
We failed in getting micro party preferences in the last election. We need a person in charge of preferences.
3. Select candidates.
Oliver – Structure. Referred to a question Manfred Posted on FB (“what would you consider is the *single most important measurement of SOL's progression?”). Getting the newsletter done. Creating a website online membership form. Add to the party membership.
Paul – Strategy is number 1
1. Strategy. Spending time voting on every step is wasting time. Have not got a unified front.
2. Getting 10,000 members.

Let others (Open Public?) listen in on our meetings.
Sven – Demonstrate how DD can work by getting someone elected. Thinks local government would give us that example. If someone was elected we would need good structure, like Paul said, or we would be a bad example.
Oliver – Agrees with Sven, SOL can demonstrate by getting elected, at same time have to get software or will look bad. Need larger core management. More people working on things.
Joum – no comment.
Nick – Structure is consistent with goals.
Oliver – Add increase staff work-force.
Paul – Thinks we are pretty well aligned in our comments on what we need to do. He will start being active in loomio.
*Sven lost connection?? 3:11
Paul - Wrap up. Stick with meetings at 2 weeks.
Next meeting: 29.8.2014 2pm.
Closing Round
Joum – Been a good meeting.
Nick – Developing in right direction.
Oliver – Happy attending meetings. Will be good to see Nick and Sven join us in Loomio where we can continue discussing the details of this meeting.
Paul – good to discuss ideas and priorities. Encouraged by people wanting to discuss structure.
Meeting ends: 3:15pm

@lbjoum Paul already started this conversation in the SUB Internal Governance group

https://www.loomio.org/d/5lGuvnOT/general-management-circle-phone-meeting-15th-august-2014

But as I was saying on Facebook

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1553621141533045/

I think that this Inner Circle is a more appropriate place to be discussing meetings in which delegates from other circles are involved.

Your probably right Ricky... But remind us again what the benefits of typing in the FB group compared to typing in here would be?

Why Facebook is better than Loomio for discussions:

  • More people already on Facebook
  • People use Facebook daily and many don't even log out of it. They carry it around with them in their pocket
  • Ability to see all threads regarding one group in the one place without seeing threads from other groups
  • Ability to choose who can see each individual post that you make
  • Ability to search group for keywords.
  • Preview thumbnails and samples of text from hyperlinks
  • Tiered conversations
  • Tabs for Events, Photos and Files
  • Easily share from what 1.28 Billion active monthly users are sharing

I am liking the look of Discourse though. I hope to be able to imbed Discourse into our website the way the Internet Party has but then also imbed OpionStage so we can both vote and discuss things straight from our website.

I know you have expressed concerns about liability when people hack into our website. That's why we have SoundFlare or some other third party security.

Oh, if you get an add-on for your browser called "Social Fixer", Facebook becomes even better. Heaps more options.

  • More people already on Facebook. I DON'T SEE THIS AS RELEVANT TO THE NEWSLETTER DISCUSSION GROUP OR THE DATABASE DISCUSSION GROUP.
  • People use Facebook daily and many don’t even log out of it. They carry it around with them in their pocket SAME AS ABOVE.
  • Ability to see all threads regarding one group in the one place without seeing threads from other groups THIS IS A DEFINATE BENEFIT.
  • Ability to choose who can see each individual post that you make THIS SHOULDN'T BE RELEVANT AS ALL OUR POSTS REGARDING THE NEWSLETTER OR DATABASE OR WEBSITE SHOULD BE VIEWABLE BY EVERYONE WHO IS IN THAT PARTICULAR WORKING GROUP.
  • Ability to search group for keywords. YES A BENEFIT.
  • Preview thumbnails and samples of text from hyperlinks YES A DEFINATE BENEFIT.
  • Tiered conversations I'M UNSURE OF WHAT THIS MEANS
  • Tabs for Events, Photos and Files I DON'T FEEL THAT THIS IS NECESSARILY THAT MUCH OF A BENEFIT FOR YOU AND I TO WORK ON THE DATABASE/WEBSITE.
  • Easily share from what 1.28 Billion active monthly users are sharing THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ME.
