Loomio

Another sublevel of subgroups

Would it be possible to implement a feature that allows one to create a subgroup within a subgroup?
For instance, if you are a national organization with federated bodies that come from each region, however in those regions you have subfederations of district/suburb groupings.
And you wish to have this represented on Loomio, therefore needing the first level of subgroups to organise the regional members, and within those sub groups, a sublevel of more subgroups to organize suburban members.

I think your question @williamasiata reflects one of the positive potential use-cases of a "subgroup within a subgroup" feature. However, it's not enough to simply allow one group to be 'nested' inside of another group. Many times, a local group may have a close relationship with a national group, and it may share one or more formal standards-- and yet, the local group is functionally independent of the national group.

Loomio community has already had some pretty involved discussions about possible additions to the user permissions options for subgroups. (Sorry, I can't find all of the most recent and pertinent examples right now.)

In theory, if we developed excellent permissions options for groups with federated, confederated and autonomous/networked associations, I could be enthusiastic about allowing subgroups of subgroups.

On a significantly related note, I personally favor the separation of permissions categories and of semantic metadata/ "topic types". I'm especially fond of this recent comment by Loomio developer Robert Guthrie.
