Dear friends and colleagues,

As most of you will know, the countries have now agreed on the final text for the new agenda: Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals.

First of all, thank you and congratulations to all of you who have worked so hard over the past years for an ambitious and transformative agenda.

Second, we are curious to hear your thoughts and feelings about the final text. Is it ambitious enough? Does it cover the key challenges we face? Does it succeed in bringing people and planet to the center? What is good and what is missing?

Please share your thoughts below!

UPDATE! Here is the final version of 'Transforming our World Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development': https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/content/documents/7891Transforming%20Our%20World.pdf

Public Outreach: again let's not reinvent the wheel, but coordinate with DPI-NGO, which already has so many outreach systems set up to reach out to the public and NGOs not yet involved with the UN system to get involved. We can then add onto their systems others we might be in contact with to improve what DPI-NGO has.

You know, CIVICUS and the HLPF are responsible to the follow up, monitoring of the SDGs like indicate the Final Tranformation our world document. So they have the first responsbility to organize the World CSOs for the SDGs implementation worldwide But they would cooperate with DPI-NGO or the 9 Major Groups structure.

Exactly - but when you say "organize the World CSOs for the SDG implementation worldwide" - where and how are they organizing them? My suggestion is that civil society join together and encourage the continuation of the 9 Major Groups beyond Sept. and even March as a way to maintain Major Stakeholders communications and even cooperation, and that we organize ourselves (Civil Society) in turn within the NGO Major Group as a structure that is already set up for that purpose. And then those are structures that DPI-NGO can interact with in an organized and efficient way. I know that Jeffery Huffines of Civicus is struggling to organize the NGO Major Group to make it more efficient for Civil society to use for purposes like that.

I am suggesting that we combine this effort headed by Hanna and Mwangi of Civicus with what Jeffery (also of Civicus) is doing with the NGO Major Group. And then from the NGO Major Group we then reach out to DPI-NGO to work together on public outreach, as well as to the other Major Stakeholders organized amongst the other 8 Major Groups to work together on monitoring the implementation of the SDGs. The reason this works also is that HLPF and Civicus want to involve civil society in these various processes - I am thinking that this could be done within the 9 Major Group structure, which of course we would improve where needed along the way.

OK, go on.
I want to add the CSOs trainings. This aspect is crucial for youth.

Ok. Absolutely I agree with you Dosse Sossouga - the CSO trainings including for youth is extremely important !!!! Let's reach out to Jeffery about this effort. Hanna and Mwangi - should we set up a meeting with Jeffery to combine this effort with what he is trying to do with the NGO Major Group? He knows the whole Major Group structure very well so he would know how to utilize the channels of communications with the other Major Stakeholders spread amongst the other 8 Major Groups, and how to include reaching out the member-nations, as well as how to reach out to DPI-NGO, since he is also heavily involved in the leadership of DPI-NGO. Let's get this moving !! What do you think, Hanna and Mwangi?

Let CIVICUS and the HLPF planning the inclusiveness of the CSOs at global, regional, national and local level. I think that every CSO will fine its place. Let move, in solidarity, to achieve what we begun many years ago. I mean the SDGs for the better world we want..

Beautifully said, Dosse Sossouga !! I agree the key is for all of us to work together !! I am now waiting to hear from Hanna and Mwangi about reaching out to Jeffery, or if there is any problem combining the two efforts that we don't know about. I think this is important because we are then working with systems already set up to making them work even better, instead of adding on even more bureaucracy and just making it more complex and thus probably more cumbersome.

I sincerely agree with you David, that we don't reinvent the wheel, though there are still a lot to do from the grassroot.
I think Dosse has taken a very good leap ahead of the time of adoption to create awareness in his country.
I think it is necessary to copy from each other what we have done that worked to make sure we gradually come up with a uniform aproach. Creating a lobby to enable our government adopt and ratify it is one step, once ratified, creating awareness amongst those directly concerned is another, having a focal point in every area concerned from the grassroot is another step to help know the level of progress.
To make sure we don't just talk too much but go straight to being practical, I will appreciate to read more from those who are already ahead of plans to know what they have done and see how other countries could follow suit.

@dossesossouga very impressive and interesting to read about the conversations you have already been having in your national context in Togo. The work at the national level is key in the implementation process. It is inspiring to learn about the actions at the national level that are already initiated by civil society colleagues. Let's keep sharing our work so we can learn from each other going forward.
