What image shall we put up on the Donation Page?

We should have a decision on what image to put on the donation page - this will get a lot of play and become known. Almost like our logo.
This is a chance to test loomios media capabilities as we add pictures.
Then we can propose the most liked and decide.

There really does not seem to be any clear definition of the fundraising effort itself so I feel it is too early to ask us to pick an image- it would give impression there is consensus on centralized $ coordination.

Thanks @chasschaeffer I gotta move on now. Someone vote so I do not feel so awkward when I vote. :-P

It might be interesting to think about the psychology if color before we decide. The AfterParty crowd is using lots of orange Which is energetic on the one side but immaturity on the other.
We have been using purple or violet to good effect. In the Namaste poster and the Phoenix. I'd like to make the imagery easy to decipher , but I do like Julia's layering.

Whichever we choose, can we get it in banner form or rectangular (long width, shorter length)
See last year's:
https://org2.salsalabs.com/o/7315/donate_page/occupy-national-gathering
Turns out, we will actually be using this link, reworked for pic and wording.
have sent an e about the wording to main list.
p.s. I like the pink and Julia's first one, but think the words over are redundant for the Contribute page itself (because you are already there to donate), tho will work well for posting elsewhere.
Lisa Sat 19 Apr 2014 5:08PM
I like the "Building the Future Together " image, although I prefer the phrase "Together We Rise". I remember getting good feedback from other Occupiers (non-NatGat) about this image. I also like the Phoenix, but without the donation language, the donation language makes it difficult to read. I also like all of the raised fist logos. The rising sun and 2nd logos are beautiful, but are they lacking in excitement?

Sally G Sat 19 Apr 2014 8:42PM
Tricia, which is the Namaste poster? Is it one that is here?
Lisa, not sure that “excitement” means the same to all, or comes from the same image for all. What I like about the sun image (#1) is its handmade appearance; personal, not corporate.

Jackie Mon 21 Apr 2014 1:18AM
this one with info updated?

Jackie Mon 21 Apr 2014 1:25AM

Jackie Mon 21 Apr 2014 1:29AM
a redo of this one from last year?

Jackie Mon 21 Apr 2014 3:26AM
really liking this one of Julie's, not for the donation page, but for social media, website posts.
really liking the sunrise that needs updating.
but if natgatua phoenix is what folks have been identifying with, that's cool too. it's on our twitter and facebook..
Lisa likes the black/blue one which is on our googles.
I have no objections to any of the three (except text changes) i would love the rising phoenix more if it were softer and lighter like some of julie's, and the same about the blue one. they're so sharp, they make me jump
If no one can update the others, the rising phoenix is the only one with all the info ready to roll. [oh, except #ng3 - is that the decided hashtag - seems I heard only use #natgat2014.

Sally G Mon 21 Apr 2014 4:13AM
No Good on using #NG3; NG3 is a postal code (or part of one), I believe for Nottingham. How are we going to narrow these down?

Justin Mon 21 Apr 2014 10:03PM
We'd have to have a straw poll with a list of them.
Each group should fund raise as needed & use what image works best for that project or ask.

Justin Mon 21 Apr 2014 10:03PM
Not into popularity contests over creative work, btw. :)

Jackie Tue 22 Apr 2014 1:14AM
we decided last week to go with AFGJ as fiscal sponsor, so are anxious to get the page set up. this will be for the general fund - the on ground necessities. "Contribute to NatGat3"
other projects like caravan, anti-racism training, allstr33ts will do separate fundraising (though in case of allstr33ts some of their projects are necessities, like the guide and food for kitchen).
plan then to have donate button go to a page on the hub with all the donation/contribution sites listed, like the Occupy Sandy page:
http://occupysandy.net/donate-to-our-ongoing-work/

Sally G Tue 22 Apr 2014 1:25AM
I recommend going with the sun on the donation page, at least for now, to match the NatGat planning group Facebook page, and presumably the guru. Certainly other sites will want to use different images for a donation button; this would not limit that in any way.

Jackie Tue 22 Apr 2014 1:38AM
Ryan is updating the sun image.

Jackie Tue 22 Apr 2014 6:04AM

Sunrise and Text from email Edits Closed Wed 23 Apr 2014 6:07AM
Sunrise proposal had only 4 votes out of 23 and was split 2 Agree 2 Abstain.
I propose we use the sunrise with updated text, and the following text, edited by about 5 ppl on email:
Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to the 2014 Occupy National Gathering!
For the third year in a row, Occupy communities from across the United States will meet to discuss issues, share organizational strategies and network for future actions at the 2014 Occupy National Gathering—Sacramento. In the true Occupy Spirit, all are welcome to attend and participate. Monetary contributions will assist with food, water, sanitation, transportation, media and other support services for all who occupy.
Checks are accepted through our fiscal sponsor AfGJ. Please make them payable to Occupy National Gathering/AfGJ and mail them to:
Occupy National Gathering/AfGJ

Thank you for your support. Hope to see you there!

I like the wording a lot. Maybe spell out the fiscal sponsor 'a name. As for the picture- it doesn't convey any urgency or need or an impulse to give.

Jackie Tue 22 Apr 2014 3:47PM
good point, Tricia - I did think AFGJ was spelled out elsewhere on the page, but do not see it. Def should.

Jackie Wed 23 Apr 2014 1:07AM
okay here's two updated sunrises, one banner and one more rectangular. I'm gonna go test on a web page and see how they look.
IF THERE ARE STRONG OBJECTIONS TO THE SUNRISE, LET'S HEAR 'EM
We have all the other info we need to go live for donations. let's go.

Tricia Wed 23 Apr 2014 2:49AM
I wish the sunrise was digitized to have the same look as the Phoenix logo. The white font over the pastel doesn't have the urgency or intimacy to invite action. My two cents

Jackie Wed 23 Apr 2014 3:50AM
have asked ryan on fb if he can make the phoenix rectangular. found out no problem to change image later.
I wish more people would weigh in. 3 on fb like phoenix, 2 on here like sun.
and the half/half abstain/agree vote looks like a sunrise ;)

Jackie Fri 25 Apr 2014 1:54AM
updated phoenix banner
however, dates are not on it and #NG3 still seems to be under debate
- media wg decision on that would be great

Jackie Fri 25 Apr 2014 1:55AM
Please make proposal if you want to use that one ^

Sally G Fri 25 Apr 2014 2:28AM
Hmm, just rereading the text on the new proposal; is it clear that we did not meet in Sacramento all 3 years? Maybe we should add “this year in” before “Sacramento” (¶3, line 4).
The purple phoenix banner is too busy for me; text too scattered, though I like the background. Maybe take off “natgat3” and “#NG3”, move “we rise” under “together”, and clear up the red text (unbold, I suspect) so that it is easier to read?

Sally G Fri 25 Apr 2014 2:29AM
I would probably make the text the ivory color, no outline, as well.

The Phoenix image is eye-catching and dynamic, sending the message that our movement is rising from the ashes, reimagining and rededicating ourselves to a powerful vision of social justice that unites the 99% like never before. We can make this real.

I would suggest proposal not be up 7 days - we needed a decision like yesterday. After we give to AFGJ it's gonna take another few days to get done.

The Symbol of the Phoenix: In ancient mythology and in myths the phoenix or phœnix is a mythical sacred firebird. The phoenix is a bird with beautiful gold and red plumage. At the end of its life-cycle the phoenix builds itself a nest of cinnamon twigs that it then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix arises. The new phoenix embalms the ashes of the old phoenix in an egg made of myrrh and deposits it in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis. The bird was also said to regenerate when hurt or wounded by a foe, thus being almost immortal and invincible — a symbol of fire and divinity-.
