Fix the speed problem - Διόρθωση Ταχύτητας

EK Emmanouel Kapernaros Public Seen by 13

ENGLISH:

Diaspora.net.gr is really slow because it is hosted on a server that I have in my home and it uses my home's internet line which has only 1Mbps upload.

A solution to this problem is to move the POD to RedHat's Openshift service and the public images to Amazon's S3 service.

What do you think? Should we do it?

Εσείς τι λέτε; Να το μεταφέρουμε;

Honestly I chose the pod diaspora.net.gr that was not hosted in the U.S. , not for the security of the content, I do not seek secret life on the Internet , just most of the pods are in USA and Germany are countries that have not heard talk of neutrality and freedom in USA steal servers and domains continuously appropriated , in Germany there is also history , is not good for most of the pods are in just 2 countries.

It is concrete the node is not working , we currently do not have a proposal, but keep thinking .

Is it possible to improve the en internet line in Manolis home ?

is there Grace an university or popular media to reach an agreement and the server stay in their offices ?

sorry about my english :)

Thank you @juansantiago for your comment!

Actually, today I learned that I can upgrade my line to VDSL!! There is a possibility that the upload speed will increase from 1Mbps to 5Mbps!!

The downside is that VDSL costs 10eurso/month.
In contrast the cost for Openshift+Amazon is about 3euros/month and will increase about to 1 more euro per year possibly due to the database being increased at a rate of 1GB/year approximately.

So now we have to options to discuss.

I think we can do a small campaign for 120 € year

I think that the idea of keeping the pod in your home-server is the best, if there is really a chance for line upgrade! We will all help with the funding, i'm sure of that!

However, if this upgrade isn't possible or you are too worried about the funding, i'm ok with the "Openshift + Amazon" solution. :)

I am with Christos and Juan! It's up to you Manolis... We can all contribute on the money so that you don't have all this cost on your own! ;)

I prefer it too if the server is in your home but if you think it's not possible, it's ok with me to take it to the Openshift/Amazon! :)

So as I see it we have to put up a campaing for 120€ and if it succeeds then I am upgrading to VDSL and the server stays intact.
If the campaing fails then I move the POD to Openshift+Amazon.

I think we should wait a few days to see if there are any more ideas, and if there is a need to vote on anything else.

Yes, I think we try to get € 120, if we fail, can use the money for the new hosting.

@juansantiago I forgot to say that we should discuss the location of the new server if the campaing fails. Maybe there are more people who prefer the loaction to be Greece.

I'm all for the VDSL upgrade! I'm sure we can raise the money.
