Fundraiser Website for SE Caravan: Up and Running!

Julia Clark's SE Caravan now has a fundraising site up and running! Our target is $1,500, and we are using GoFundMe instead of Indiegogo.
Check it out! http://www.gofundme.com/9lbrgw

Can we get a newswire item out? Notice of this caravan and its funding page, and the northwest caravan looking for driver/vehicle?
Julia Clark Sat 31 May 2014 4:00AM
Thank you @danielhong !
There is a little concern about the Gofundme page.
It is unverified.
To verify it I would have to sign-in using my facebook. Then after that I would always have to sign-in using facebook. .
This is a problem because then Daniel would need access to my Facebook profile password, not just an admin on the JCO and or ccc facebook page.
Giving Daniel my password and access to my facebook profile is a concern because I have spoken romantically with persons before. Nothing anything I would be embarrassed of if made public or semi-public, but it is not something I would normally share without reserve.
I have provided a director within the WIPO access to view unpublished pages because she did not have a facebook,
I do not mind persons going behind the scenes, briefly. I just have not allowed anyone full access for an extended period of time.
I would like advice, comments, and thoughts .

Jackie Sat 31 May 2014 4:09AM
could you create an email account with dual access just for gofundme?
not familiar w/gfm (or any of them really)
Julia Clark Sat 31 May 2014 4:19AM
I did. I created Daniel an email account on NATGAT.JuliaClark.org That is how he created the Gofundme page.
There surely must be another way to verify other than facebook....

Sally G Sun 1 Jun 2014 3:52AM
There certainly should be an alternate way; FB is becoming WAY too intrusive; I have a local newspaper (2nd largest in the state, I think) that has made all its comments FB sign-ins. I am not sure that there is any nonFB way to comment. I would contact fofundme’s management/customer service and complain—in fact, maybe someone who does not have a current campaign can call and say that they do not have a FB account and ask how they could create a campaign.

Just wrote Gofundme.com:
I am Julia Clark of The Julia Clark Organization, and the Culling Corruption Campaign, I am heading up the South East Caravan for the National Gathering 2014. I am also on the steering committee of the National Gathering 2014.
Daniel Hong volunteers as the fund raising manager for the South East Caravan. He created an account on Gofundme.com for the South East Caravan.
He has told me that to facebook verify I need to log in to Gofundme.com with my Facebook credentials. However, after I do that logging into Gofundme.com will always require logging in through facebook.
I explain the concern here:
https://www.loomio.org/d/cjw021dB/fundraiser-website-for-se-caravan-up-and-running
"There is a little concern about the Gofundme page.

We need a solution to verify and allow Daniel Hong to manage the fund raising campaign.

Julia Clark

Thank you for all of that information Julia.
Just to clarify, the Facebook account you're trying to connect, is it your personal Facebook profile, or is it a group/business/organization Facebook page?
As soon as you let me know, I'll be able to help you further.
Best,
Cory
Julia Clark Sun 1 Jun 2014 4:49PM
Hi Cory,
I would prefer the organizations Facebook to be used for verification

Thank you for following up with us Julia.
Unfortunately we are unable to accept organizational Facebook pages, we can only link up personal Facebook profiles.
If you'd like I can show you how most people still promote their page in this situation. However I see that you have your personal Facebook profile already linked to the account for this page: http://www.gofundme.com/Curb-Corruption-Campaign
Would you be able to let me know on which campaign you'd ultimately like to have your Facebook profile linked to?
As soon as you let me know, I'll be able to help you further.
Best,
Cory
Julia Clark Sun 1 Jun 2014 5:13PM
Cory,
Maybe you do not understand the problem. I do not wish to give my password to my personal facebook page to Daniel, just so he can log into Gofundme.com to manage my page.
I provided Daniel Hong an email account to create a GoFundMe account. It is Daniel@natgat.juliaclark.org
Again, let me restate the issue. I do not wish to give Daniel Hong my password to my prsonal facebook account to log in to gofundme.
We need a solution to that issue.
Regards,
Julia Clark

Hello Julia,
If Daniel will be the one managing the page, he will need to connect his own Facebook account. We require that all users on GoFundMe display their authentic identity. As such the page will need to be tied to him if he is in control of the fundraiser. We do not allow pages to be set up in the name of an organization.
Will Daniel be withdrawing the funds or will you?
Let me know so I can better advise.
Thank you,
Taryn
Julia Clark Sun 1 Jun 2014 5:43PM
Taryn,
So the solution is for Daniel to link his personal facebook to the NatGat South East Caravan Gofundme.com page? The SouthEast Caravan, which I am the heading up. Moreover, I am a terribly technical writer, thus one reason Daniel Hong is writing for me and the caravan will be busy navigating across the backwoods of the US.
The funds withdrawal has not been thoroughly discussed because the Facebook issue arrived first. Daniel said there was three ways to withdraw. Considering there are no funds, yet. Such seems a non-issue at this point.
Let me restate what you have told me. You said in so many words, "Gofundme.com is not a good choice." Which of your competitors would be a better choice?
Let me know so I can better decide.
Regards,
Julia

Hello Julia,
In order to protect our donors, we do promote transparency on GoFundMe. If you will not be directly managing the campaign or collecting donations personally, then the campaign would not be set up in your name. Instead, you would want to have Daniel set up everything under his own information. Then he can make it clear on the page who he is and where the funds will really be going.
It is also important to make sure that your payment account is set up properly before receiving donations. We have these policies in place to make sure GoFundMe is a safe place for people to donate, and also to protect you from any chargebacks or disputes if a donor feels mislead.
If you don't feel that this would be a good fit for you, I understand. There are several other crowdfunding sites out there, though I'm not sure of any specific ones that allow multiple administrators or that specialize in the what you are looking to do exactly.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you,
Taryn
We're here to help! I'll try my best to respond within 5 minutes during normal business hours.

Thank you, Taryn. In the spirit of transparency the communication with Gofundme.com was posted on to the loomio thread I mentioned in the first letter.
If we have any questions, I will let you know. It will take longer than 5 minutes for any questions to be decided on.
Regards,
Julia
Julia Clark Sun 1 Jun 2014 6:06PM
@danielhong do you have an issue connecting your Facebook profile to the Gofundme page as Taryn described?
Seems kind of logical, if you are managing more than one campaign.
Julia Clark Sun 1 Jun 2014 6:09PM
BTW, I did not bold the text above. It C&P that way.
Julia Clark Sun 1 Jun 2014 6:14PM
Taryn,
The funds would be going to me. I think he said there was paypal, one other way, and check.
With him managing the updates on the Gofundme page, is there going to be an issue getting the funds to me and the caravan?
Regards,
Julia
Julia Clark Sun 1 Jun 2014 6:35PM
Hi Julia,
In order to make sure this is all squared away, could you have Daniel write in to us from the account email with you CC'd on the thread?
We are unable to go into account specifics without communicating through the email on file for the campaign.
That message can be sent to support@gofundme.com. Go ahead and put Attn: Taryn in the subject line and I'll get this all set up for you.
Thanks,
Taryn
Julia Clark Sun 1 Jun 2014 7:20PM
Taryn,
Thank you very much. I have CC this and forwarded the last mail to Daniel and he will contact you.

Julia

Taryn,
I apologize when I made Daniel's email I included his last name. the correct address is daniel_hong@natgat.juliaclark.org
No need to reply, just a correction for reference.
Julia

Daniel Hong Sun 1 Jun 2014 9:44PM
@juliaclark Thanks for forwarding all of these emails to me.
Right now, I only see three options for us moving forward. One, we continue without Faceobok verification. Two, you and I create an entirely new personal Facebook profile and verify. Three, we drop GoFundMe and look for a competitor.
Julia Clark Tue 3 Jun 2014 3:03AM
@danielhong I'll have to address this tomorrow
This is a group project as much as it is the JCO getting temp checks from across the SE.
Ido not like how it alarmingly brands the profile non-verified.
Maybe, we should imitate natgat 's system for fundraising.
Suthoff is going to be on board in two weeks . He might have some valuable input. But I would like to move on the fund raising without delay.
Tomorrow, the cruiser gets installed with the power package. Chris is very excited to be contributing a significant amount of labor for this install. He is shutting down the shop to apply all labor to the cruiser to achive install in under an hour.
This will be a good photo op and time to tell about Natgat and the Occupations. Lots of folks still do not have internet this far back into the woods. Matter fact, I am on 1g network now.
I would like to hit as many municipalities and county admins to see how knowledgeable and thoughts of the Occupy and NATGAT.
I'd like some sort of plan, though yes, this caravan is fluid, I would like some structure.
I am calling it a night.

Tricia Tue 3 Jun 2014 4:41PM
Looks like the structure is emerging-- video logs and visits to remote areas - gathering concerns and stories and bringing them with you to Sacramento.
Do you have an itinerary?

Sally G Tue 3 Jun 2014 5:23PM
@jackie see above; Julia wants to get fund-raising up fast

Jackie Tue 3 Jun 2014 6:55PM
that's what I thought, but didn't someone say to hold up until the funding verification was solid? if it's gonna be changed, we don't want to have folks donate to a site the SE carvan can't access.

Sally G Wed 4 Jun 2014 2:18AM
that was me, before I saw this @juliaclark @jackie
you two work it out!
Jackie · Thu 29 May 2014 5:12AM
cool. now we should go back to thinking about a Donation page on the site that lists and links to all the donation sites.
I'll put it on the list of things to do for the website.
