Introducing: opensource.ouishare.net & the OuiShare Handbook

F Francesca Public Seen by 140

I’m very happy to announce that after 8 months of work, the Opensourcing OuiShare team has some deliverables to share with you that we hope will be very useful for the community and peiople that want to know how OuiShare works!

For context, read more about the background of this project and see our most recent update.

The 4 pillars of opensourcing:

1) opensource.ouishare.net

Our easy-to find platform that gives an overview of all of the different building blocks of how OuiShare works. It’s purpose is dual: being a place where community members can quickly access links to our maps, toolkits and handbook, but also a way to showcase to external people how OuiShare works.

We will do a proper communication launch of this landing page externally after OuiShare Fest Paris.

2) The OuiShare Handbook - work in progress!

The OuiShare Handbook is heavily inspired by the Enspiral Handbook, which is where we are putting all “static” content around how is organized OuiShare and makes decisions. It is a little like our “constitution”, which we assume will need to be updated on an intermittent basis, after new loomio agreements, etc.

Some key sections that I would like to highlight:

  • Roles that exist in OS and what they mean: Connectors, Active and Supporting Members
  • How we make decisions: even though we have agreed on this together, I know we tend to all forget the details of our decision making framework. This overview should be a useful way to refresh our memory and onboard new connectors.
  • Collaboration tools: a list of all the tools we use in OuiShare with tutorials, screenshots and how to get access. This is a useful link to share with newcommers
  • Overview of our legal entities: just to keep track! You will see that we are missing some info here, which I please ask the concerned communities to fill us in on.

As agreed a few weeks ago, we are attempting to replace the wiki with the OuiShare Handbook and Knowledge maps. Most of the wiki content has been moved to the handbook already, but there are parts missing that still need to be transfered. And of course: there are probably quite a few points around our decision making processes that could be rediscussed, which is not what Esra and I were doing with this work. We have simply put the same content into a different format, so it can now be discussed in a next step :).

3) OuiShare Finance Report

This the place where we would like to propose to put very simple financial reporting for each OuiShare entity on an annual basis, to create a basic level of transparency. You will see that much of it is stil empty and overall we only have numbers for France so far.

Therefore this is shout-out to all people doing finances in Montreal, London, Munich, Barcelona and Rio, to please join the slack channel #fin-transparency so we can coordinate all entities adding their stats directly, once you have them.

4) OuiShare Knowledge Map

While the handbook is for static knowledge that changes rarely, this is where we will put our dynamic knowledge assets. Lead by Manel, there are currently multiple communities of practice in progress, which you can see an update on here.

If you would like to join the Sales & Leads community of practice lead by Johanna, check out this thread.

Next steps

  1. Build and grow the handbook together! If you see content that is missing or needs correcting, you are invited to change it. See how here.

  2. Do an official launch the opensource.ouishare.net after OuiShare Fest, with a larger communication campaign planned in September around our building blocks of open sourcing. Feel free to share the website now already with anyone interested in learning more about how OuiShare works, including journalists, because this should hopefully make this a little easier than it has been in the past.

Looking forward to your comments and feedback!

very impressive driver to get to know OS ways of working. Just a comment, don't you think the shared values bills of right or mission statements are a bit diluted. For me It's typically the first brick to put upfront
