Internal communications

Background: Many members of the Maryland Green Party including some members of the cc and some local leaders are unable to participate in CC calls or in person meetings because of location and schedule conflicts related to work or family obligations. We have more people who would like to be involved in the discussion and decision making, especially as it relates to committee work but we do not have a culture or platform that makes it accessible.
Our current online platforms email and Loomio each have limits that make participation difficult. Email does not provide an easy way to opt in to certain conversations and forces people to read a lot of information not relevant to them. Loomio could be a good platform for this type of discussion but the lack of an app makes it difficult for people who are primarily on a mobile platform.
Even given those limitations Loomio is a better platform for decision making because it allows people to opt in and because it has built in grouping and decision making tools.

Proposal for Internal communication Closed Sun 17 Mar 2019 4:02PM
This proposal has passed with 11 in favor and 5 not voting.
1.In the Short term we should utilize Loomio as the primary decision making platform and appoint volunteers to moderate and maintain it.
2.In the short term We should limit this listserv to members of the CC and to NC and shift general discussion, event announcements, and forwards to the general discussion area of Loomio
3. In the short term we should use the existing groups set up in Loomio for committee discussions to allow members to participate in committee work.
4. In the mid term we should explore a new platform that can allow all local leaders, cc members, committee members and all Maryland greens to participate in the discussion and decision making related to them. A platform like Basecamp could be very good, but is also costly, alternatives can be explored, but should have an app and a web interface.

If I understand correctly, the app would allow mobile users to have access, and the web interface would allow folks like me with no phone to access via laptop. Someone let me know if I got that wrong!

Not a huge fan of loomio but I understand why switching is difficult.

@marytyrtlerooker Yes, once we have a new platform it will be as accessible from mobile as it is from web. Right now Loomio does not have an app, so we will need to make do with it until we pick a fully compatible platform, hoepfully before the assembly.

I would add that I read the proposal and cast my vote on Loomio this afternoon in the Chrome app on my mobile phone.

Thank you Andy for this. While I enjoy Party discussions, I'd like to keep my inbox down, though I have files to store important info, it's a lot.
