Onboarding & Orientation Moving Forward [Discussion Period]
Onboarding & Training moving forward
Bringing in more members to the PPAC seems to be one of the focus for the revenue generation. Onboarding & orientation task has been historically done via onbaording team members one-on-one approach as new members came in. To conduct 6 month, bi-weekly check in with each members presented challenges such as coordinating schedules, capacity, confusion around knowledge and information; both front end and backend. And often the work falls on long-standing members, and which often had a challenge completing fully.
This proposal aims to
Bring more transparency to the Guild Information & consistency to the people’s understanding.
Create more autonomy for new member’s learning process
Easier for new members to meet and get to know the cooperative members.
Create an easier way for existing members to contribute to support new members. And leaning into their strength more.
Reducing time for coordinating schedules.

Agreed that 1:1 time with each member is helpful - I have started this process and have gotten to know members I do not normally interact with

It would be helpful to onboading new members and infographic that details the history of PPAC and PPL but also some light reading Guilds and the Future of Work | The New Yorker

@Emily Richard & @Michael Middleton - When you say 1:1 time, can you elaborate what that means? or what that can look like? I imagine that's more curated setup that you're imagining.

@Yuko I specifically mean a time when a new member sits alone with a current Stewarding member to either discuss their practices, or ideally to accomplish some task that gives them a focus while getting to know one another.

I love this onboarding proposal. Seems streamlined, clear, attainable and sustainable.
We’d said that some of these tutorials worlds be open to onboarding members and old members alike, yes?
I would love to revisit some of these tech basics (😱) and Everytime I listen to the history I hear something new, so I’m quite interested.

Observing some comments and things from people, holding off the voting process to continue the further discussion.
Also noting that the support for new members are more needed. I'd love to see more stewarding member be a part of helping new members' onboarding process.

I welcome any onboarding process that has:
clear documentation
regular check-ins
exposure to all folks in the building in person...this last one would have been very helpful for me when I started. Actually spending time with each Stewarding Member one-on-one, preferably in person.
