Narrow Project Categories?

CS Cristina Solana Public Seen by 375

Narrow the projects created and promoted by Code for Miami to 2-3 categories that affect Miami. For instance, Transit and Sea Level Rise.

This would allow us to target our outreach and focus resources and see projects to completion, and improve retention.

I said this in a previous proposal, but I'm okay with that but I will go with whatever the group decides. I think a big part of it is also figuring out what 2-3 categories folks are into, of course.

Does narrowing categories improve completion, or just limiting the number of total projects?

CS

I wouldn't say it would necessarily improve completion. Imo, our issue hasn't been completing projects, it's been what happens to the project after it is ready.

If focus is narrowed to a few topics, we can build relationships with NGOs, etc that can help us get those projects in use by stakeholders vs sitting in Github unused.

I also think we should tag our github projects with [unmaintained] and another tag similar to "looking for contributors" or whatever it is the project needs to keep moving forward. The project with most activity and most recently updated is the restaurant inspections one. Besides that, there's a lot of repos/projects that seem to have no activity and I don't have any idea of what those projects are/do.

I like this idea but this almost got lost in the topic about focus categories. Can you post this as a new thread?

Does Economic development sound like a good third topic, along with Transit and Sea Level Rise, or is that too vague?

Economic Development is definitely too vague a topic.
