Email Preferences

Do you think it would be more useful as a global setting, or possible as a per-discussion setting? I.e. I'm imagining a button on the discussion page 'Email me when this discussion is updated'

I think both options would be good.

For discussions I didn't contribute to but am interested in I'd click on the 'Email me when this discussion is updated'

I would though probably forget about the option if I was contributing to a discussion because I'd be thinking a lot more about the content of the discussion and the contribution I was making or had made.

How about a check box under a new discussion window/your comment on any existing discussion saying 'Email me when this discussion is updated'. That would let you filter the ones you really want to get a notification about on the go instead of changing general settings and receiving outdated notifications possibly for the ones you do not care about anymore. There should be an option to unsubscribe in this case as well, I think.

Just thinking now - would we want a notification to be sent if discussion title or context has been changed? For your own only or a discussion you have contributed to also?

I kind of got this check box idea stuck in my mind. If we would decide to go ahead with that - you could add a setting in General preferences on wether you'd want the checkbox about notifying for all new comments be selected by default or not. In this way you could look at it as a general preference if chosen to be selected by default and as per discussion basis one, if not.

I think an option to unsubscribe from a particular discussion would also be an essential (This might be already happening?)
