How to support people getting to Art Of Hosting event 18-20 nov, Hampshire

LF Luke Flegg Public Seen by 243

Very late in the day! But I just took the liberty of moving/copying this conversation to Loomio as per Leon's suggestion (does seem to make sense as it is an actionable decision and this will give us a record of the process - a process which ChangeTheFuture is trying to be a model example of)

People book themselves onto course immediately (CTF will reimburse them up to 75% same day) Closed Thu 12 Nov 2015 4:07PM

Successful proposal!

Certainly room for improvement here (eg. bit last minute! multiple choice would be nice) but we've managed to make a complex group decision here, in time : ]
No-one was against it (let alone blocked it). Some were "For".

As this has already been approved by Leon/Alex, I will now reimburse everyone who has booked (up to 75% which is £176.25.

As per JemT's proposal, people take responsibility of how much financial support they need from CTF (up to 75% of the £235 fee).

If this is successful, people must book directly themselves (find money from somewhere) and get immediately reimbursed (LukeF is happy to do this same day)

Given such short notice, I think this is the least crap way to move forward in a way that each person:
-knows exactly what they're paying
-take responsibility for their financial needs + CTF's financial needs
-are trusted
-makes a quick decision

Comments already shared. Willing to let legitimate needs and stronger positions prevail on this...

I do appreciate it when plans stay as they were originally laid out.
I realised that as every new person showed interest in the training the goalposts were changing for the way the allocated money was distributed. This seemed fairer.

What are the other options? Will people get supported more or less? How can we vote when we don't know what the outcome will be?

Hi everyone, my sense is that me joining this event is all becoming a bit too complicated and stressful. Luke, thank you for telling me about it last night, though perhaps it is too late in the day. I look forward to seeing/meeting all of you at some point soon. And I would love to hear all about the Art of Hosting experience when whoever goes gets back. Hope you're all having a lovely day, Sarah x

I'd say this was in response to my own personal need. I'd like it if more people could attend as a part of ChangeTheFuture. This was also the fairest way that i could see for funding multiple attendees.

Bit of a meta-point here, but it feels like this should be a poll?

  • Like a VocalEyes topic (where we can have multiple ideas)
  • Or a FaceBook Poll,
  • Or a VoteFlow Poll

As it is, I'm not sure if I want to vote for or against this. What will be the result if this is turned down?
I'd like to see options like:

  • up to 75% of the £235 fee
  • up to 75% of the £235 fee + up to 75% of travel
  • no support
  • up to 100% of the £235 fee and travel
  • up to 50% of the £235 fee and travel

Then we can rate them, and see which the group wants most? Is there a way we can do with with loomio? And of course the ability to add new options too.

Alex I love your brain, and love even more your ability to articulate it so well. I also happen to agree loads Loomio would be soo much better if it allowed multiple choice too. Gah. It's the main thing that turned me off about it. Though I love it otherwise.

This seems to be an effective place to get Loomio to prioritise adding this feature!

@sarahhopkins lovely human. It's not you, it's us! We're just trying to master group decision making and it's something many of us are passionate about as it's such an important skill for us to share.

I would be gutted if you dropped out! We may take a while deliberating over logic and reason, but you're causing no hassle - only revealing exactly what we need to get smoother at when organising together.
I've already told Art Of Hosting you're coming so YOU'RE STUCK with us now. mwahaha.. (Unless you actually would prefer not to come. Which is also fine) but if in your heart, you're still keen, could you wait til this proposal closes in a matter of hours? I created it so we could decide something before the conversation went on too long. I see these conversations as improving the soil things in CTF grow in, so I have lots of time for them. But I think there's also times we just need to grow some food now if the soil works, so we can taste something! Rather than waiting until the soil is perfect, then beginning all the growing at once; we assess the soil by constantly tasting the fruit.

Thank you for explaining Luke - this kind of communication is all quite new to me. I'll be honest, my preference is always for face to face interaction; I find communication without tone and body language rather daunting and ripe for misunderstandings. But now that you mention it I can see the importance of the process. I would still love to come to The Art of Hosting, if it's possible, but I will be happy and accepting whatever happens.
