Petition to DC Council: enact emergency ban on tear gas before election

RB Rachel Bergman Public Seen by 10

The action requested is that our chapter sign on to a petition that demands the DC Council enact an emergency ban the use of tear gas before the November 3 election.

The petition went up after this reporting: “DC Police buy $100,000 in tear gas in preparation for possible 'civil disturbance' in coming months. Purchase orders first obtained by American University's Investigative Reporting Workshop show $130,000 spent on tear gas and other munitions."

This vote will be a quick turn-around; JWJ is trying to collect sign-ons ASAP because the last time the DC Council will act before the election is THIS TUESDAY, and they need to act by then to protect first amendment protesters in DC.

Our members are likely to be the victims of these munitions.

Absolutely in favor of this proactive action that will protect our members and the thousands of Washingtonians who will exercise their first Amendment right should the election fall into contention.
