Giveth governance circle M E E T I N G

K Kay Public Seen by 186

New informational resources about decentralized governance, as well as new tools, are being discovered by Unicorns constantly. We should hold a governance circle meeting as a place for discussing new governance experiments, mechanics that could be forked off other projects and tools to complement our ever-evolving set of software for distributed teamwork.

This is highlighted by our newest members, who seem very interested in the topic.

I want to run two decisions by you to kick off the meeting to set the time and build an agenda.

love this! hope it is not named "governance meeting" or "governance circle meeting" - it's too confusing with already a confusing name for our actual governing meeting! Some options in my head: DAC Toolbox meeting, DAC Methods Meeting, Methods Meeting, Methodaology Meeting, Daology Meeting, Methodology Meeting, Governance Tools Meeting, Governance Toolbox Meeting, DeCent Gov, DeCent Governance, DAC in Practice (uh-oh, this one is def pronounced "dack" like quack..)

Haha, well I strrrrrongly recommend governance circle meeting.
My entire reasoning for renaming that meeting was to create space for an actual Governance Circle Meeting (this one), which Kay is now organizing, so hurray! That is THIS meeting. In this way we'll finally have a Meeting for our four circles (Comms/SC/Gov/DApp with their own documentation & processes) + the DAC/Community meeting. If you check the wiki update on staging (https://giveth-wiki-staging.netlify.com ) you will see this is now also the structure of the pages for documenting these 4 + 1 meetings. Same with Giveth.io site: 4+1. Both are for me actually a big part of the plan for bringing clarity in our comms. First proposed that for the wiki a year ago here in Thailand :)
This meeting is not to talk just about the tools or methods, it can start like this but I hope it will grow into more, into the meeting to model governance overall, for us & others, i.e. the Governance Circle Meeting. (see goals of the governance circle in the goals sheet https://docs.google.com/document/d/15bD4zWmNGseSehNMS2ZYVUcTGXKp3B-REFf8A-0B7Xs/edit?usp=sharing)

Ps. Re: 'Our actual governing meeting' -- that's indeed what that is, governing of the DAC. If you find the current one confusing I can actually check to bring it to DAC Meeting (my original proposal). But so that's not the Governance Circle.

Ohhhh this will be a fun share session! On the naming side of things community meeting seems like a strategy meet (rather than governance as previously called) and this sounds like a motion to follow governance meeting processes more carefully :) looking forward to it. I guess to prepare I'll gather links on a wiki page, if people are interested in them we can collaborate on stuff!

Governance circle meeting is lame and confusing - here are some options I like, or add your own.

Plz see the reasoning I wrote down in the thread - personally find this a pretty important one, it's why we're rewriting site & wiki the way we are doing right now - to bring clarity & focus for ourselves and for the outside world.

I'm unsure what this meeting will turn into, so lets name it once we start to see some patterns? It depends what people want out of it. Gov-lab sounds like a fun place to run excersises, which I was suggesting to Kris the other day. I'd really really like to practice governance patterns like music - running excersises slowly with nearly inconsequential decisions (and thus outcomes). The point being to build the correct reflexive memory for more important things: https://vimeo.com/270452641

I'm with Josh, let's see how the naming evolves, I know there is a lot interest in a Strategy meeting... maybe tools and strategy can be one meeting combined?
