Using Loomio for AHBPA decisions

ST Sam TIM Public Seen by 568

This discussion is about how we make decisions through Loomio.

The discussion is public, but only the Reps can participate.

The rules for making decisions through Loomio are:

  1. Each rep gets one vote on a proposal.
  2. A decision of the jedi council is made if: 2a more reps voting agree to the proposal than disagree 2b at least 50% of all reps participate, rounding up (e.g. 50% of 25 is 12.5, so 13 reps must participate for a vote on a proposal to be valid)
  3. A block acts as a veto. However, a veto can be overridden and a decision made if more than 2/3rds of all reps agree to the proposal (e.g. with 25 reps, 17 agreeing to a proposal overrides a veto).
  4. Abstentions count as participation for the purposes of making a vote on a proposal valid.
  5. A proposal must remain open for two weeks; or until more than 2/3rds of the total number of representatives have agreed (e.g. with 25 reps - 17 agree)
  6. A proposal to reverse a decision of council will require at least as many representatives participating as participated in the original decision, however to succeed the proposal requires at least 2/3rds of those participating to agree to reverse the previous decision.

Loomio is a goer. It has already started to improve our discussions. There are some rules to clarify and more members to join up, but we have now officially adopted Loomio as AHBPA rep discussions platform.

Try it, then lock it in. Email forum has obvious weaknesses. Will Loomio be better?

Anything that enhances transparency and eases communication of decisions and the arguments behind those decisions has to be worth trying.

This is a step in the right direction. The email threads were doing my head in.

I have realised you can use the comments section as a form of debate before voting. Liking this much better to the email threads that I have to read back to remind myself WTF happened.

Loving this new form of discussion. It will be interesting to see how the general polo public views it in the future.

It seems legit. Are all the reps signed up though? Seems like less people on here than in the google group.
