Another option: get rid of the wiki / editing functionality, and just add people's information directly into the website (which a handful of people can edit). Given that we're using eventbrite (maybe) to collect this information, there might not be a need for the wiki / etherpad functionality.

If we go down this route, we could split up the website into 4+ different location pages (i.e. oersprint.nz/wellington, oersprint.nz/tauranga, etc). This would probably make more sense.

Thoughts @williammckee?

Yes splitting citys could be ok - especially for registration and such. though I worry about separating areas for resource creation. For having a central area, a wiki could work well. An example from LCA - https://linux.conf.au/wiki/Main_Page

In terms of wiki software I recommend https://moinmo.in/. Stay away from dirty php.

I will likely be in Wellington for the event so can help out there with a wiki. My plan at the event to build some static sites remixing preexisting content (raspberry pi education etc)

Eventbrite looks like an excellent option.

@mattmcgregor if you own and control the oersprint.nz domain, you could install a wiki there. My favourite for that purpose is dokuwiki. It is file based, therefore, there is nothing to install (only php is needed). You can easily create different pages for different regions. Or different wikis for different regions, with one person of the region managing it.

You can use it on the day for persons to write their resources on. It comes with a nice editor bar, so you can use it without having to learn the syntax (markdown like). There are plugins for creating books (https://www.dokuwiki.org/plugins?plugintag=books#extension__table), for topics like chemistry (https://www.dokuwiki.org/plugins?plugintag=chemistry#extension__table), for presentation options like slideshows (https://www.dokuwiki.org/plugins?plugintag=slideshow#extension__table).

I am happy to spend an hour with you to help set it up (I am a web developer). Warning, though, I haven't decided yet if I was coming on the day. So only consider that offer if you are, yourself, comfortable with that option.

Thanks @mariellelange! Sounds like a good option. I'm comfortable - but can I wait to see who else has some thoughts, just so I don't make a call on behalf of others? Seems like there are a few different ideas floating around.

@mattmcgregor All this is is an option ;-). We all have different backgrounds and experience. Priority should be given to options that work for all of us :-).

Hi all - quick update:

1) I've added a new WP theme, and re-done the website, so it looks a bit nicer. Tell me what you think! http://oersprint.nz/

2) I've kept Google forms for registration for simplicity. We already have 40+ registrations through the form, so would rather not have to manage multiple systems. The host(s) for each in-person event can manage reminders, etc, if this is what eventbrite provides. Any other reasons to use it?

Hi Matt

Looks lovely @mattmcgregor! Never personally used Eventbrite myself, but I think the one benefit is that you can easily tick off who is actually in attendance. Not sure if that matters though.

Personally I'm a huge fan of just using Google Forms and like Melita says, do whatever is easiest for you!

Hi team, I just tried to register on the website and looks like the form to register doesn't work? Unless I'm missing something :)

Hi @amie Sorry about that - fixed now. Not quite sure what happened there!
