Try out the experimental new Loomio features and give us feedback!
Hullo product enthusiasts!
Just a quick update from Loomio HQ to let you know that we鈥檝e just enabled a couple of experimental features in this group 馃殌
The first experimental feature is tagging, which we hope will:
- Make it easier to categorise the type of discussion you鈥檙e having
- Make Loomio more visually engaging
- Allow users to more easily find the discussions they are interested in
To read about how tagging works in detail, please take a look at this document.

The second feature is comment truncation - long comments will be truncated with a show more link underneath.
The rationale for building this feature is to ensure users aren't overwhelmed by walls of text as they try to engage, and, to quote @alanna "[to] leave space for those who want to engage in long-form discussion, while also keeping the conversation accessible to those who don't want to, don't have time, or can't". Additional context in this Loomio thread.

We would love to receive any feedback you have about either of these features - just comment in this thread 馃槂
Thanks very much,
Hannah (on behalf of the Loomio team)
Hi,
I think the comment truncation seems to be truncating some comments by only a line or two - I think this doesn't make sense as it makes it clunkier and doesn't really make it quicker to read...
I guess there should be a margin of error before it actually truncates a comment?
Hello,
Comments truncating: Link show more is here, but on some comments its shows just one more line of text... Maybe you can make exception to not truncate if just one or two lines of text in comment needs to be truncated. Looks nonsense to me if hide just one or two lines of comments text.
Tags: i see it on this thread, looks cool. nice idea.
I can't see the tagging!
Nice :-D
Tagging is a sweet addition. Interesting choice for drop shadows on the text? Also if you click it twice you get two of the same tag. Just mentioning it, in case someone didn't know.
Yeah the ability to add the same tag twice seems strange to me, too

cool!
I see. It is good
Thanks very much for your helpful feedback, folks!
We've just deployed an update to the comment truncation feature. We've increased the size of the target, and the truncation functionality has been tweaked to address the issue around comments only having one or two lines of collapsed content.
If you have any additional feedback, please don't hesitate to post it in this thread 馃憤
Re truncating, I wonder if different groups doing different tasks might have different norms about the length of posts. If so, how about giving the group administrator the ability to vary the target for truncation?
Suggestion may have been said, but in case not: I'm looking forward to when/if it's possible to type "tag:[tag-name]" into the search bar :))
Hey folks,
I've just deployed a content preview experimental function, which will allow you to see the content that you're creating before you post it. Should be active for the Loomio Community group for comments, discussions, and proposals. Let me know what you think, or if you have issues or suggestions! 馃悽

Nice! 馃憤
How do we activate this?
@jameswilson It's available in the Loomio Community and its subgroups (plus the Enspiral group) only for the time being; after we've done a little user testing and made sure it's awesome, we'll roll it out to the rest of the groups on loomio.org :)
I hope the feature of pinging me if I move off the page without posting is implemented soon. I made yet another oversight recently which caused some anguish!
Hi,
I have tested the tag function. It is a good solution to tag incoherent discussions. In my case I did not authorized members to create new discussions to avoid the multiplication of topics. People propose a new topic in a specific open discussion and I add it. May be these Tags could help allowing members to open directly new discussions.
Originally I wanted to open 10 discussion on general topics and under each of them detailed topic discussions. Now with the Tags I can replace my general topics by 10 tags and can create the detailed topics with a given same Tag.
My concern will be to reorganize the existing discussions containing valuable informationf. I would like to move comments or group of comments from a discussion to an other discussion. But this is an other topic.
Tag-based organization is deeply important for the future of p2p media sharing, discussion and decision process. Based on a quick look, this implementation looks super pro. Bravo! 馃槂
As I mentioned last year in the OP's linked thread, I think that truncation should ideally be an option for group coordinators to set to variable thresholds. However, I think that the new default truncation threshold is so good-- so practical, and broadly relevant-- that a coordinator-defined option would be a relatively trivial "wish list" improvement.
